Disclaimer: I Do Not Own Naruto Or My Hero Academia

Naruto Uzumaki had lived a long, full life. He had raised himself up from the orphan nobody believed in, to the leader of the village that everyone could look up to. He had married a wonderful woman he loved who had given him two children that had grown into fine adults. In the books written about him, there was so much more detailed that he had done, but he liked to focus on the big things. His family and his village. That was what mattered.

Now seventy-two years after he had come into the world, he was leaving it. Next, to him, the steady beeping of the machine he was connected too began to slow.

"Kurama, it's time." He said with a small smile.

His friend had stuck with him to the end, even when the Bijuu hadn't had to. Kurama could have left decades ago but he had decided to stay instead.

"Tch, don't get all weepy, brat." Kurama snorted. "I already told you, this isn't the end for us. Or did your small human mind forget that?"

"Ah, come on, Kurama!" Naruto began to laugh. Only for it to dissolve into weak coughs.

He didn't even have the strength for laughter anymore.

"I'm on my death bed." He said when his coughing fit stopped. "Is that really the last thing you want to say to me? We might not see each other again for a few lifetimes."

Kurama snorted again. "Or we could be reincarnated in the same hospital. Whatever, if you're going to get so mopey about it.

Naruto waited as Kurama mulled over what to say. After a few seconds, the Bijuu spoke again.

"Despite everything that led up to it. . .I'm glad I was sealed in you, Naruto."

"Me too, Kurama. Me too."

Beep. . .Beep. . .Beep

Rolling over in his bed, Naruto Uzumaki reached out, tapping the ringing alarm clock next to his head.
That dream again. He thought as he slid off the mattress.

His feet hit cold concrete but he was used to it so he didn't so much as shiver at the sensation. Next to the alarm clock, a nondescript black notebook sat. Naruto picked it up and flipped it open to the dog eared page. The latest clean page was over three quarters into the book and he made a mental note to buy a new one soon.
I don't want to run out of pages and have an idea hit me. He thought as he transcribed the dream he had.

They were too important to forget. He didn't know why they were, he just knew that he couldn't forget them.

When he finished copying the dream down, he closed the notebook and left his room, heading downstairs to the cafeteria. The rest of the kids were already there eating breakfast and talking to each other.

"Late again, huh, Naruto?"

Naruto sighed as he walked to the buffet set up at the front of the cafeteria. Behind the counter, a boy his age with lighter blonde hair and pale skin was smiling at him holding out a plate filled with food.

"Lucky for you I saved you the good stuff." Inojin set the plate on the counter.
"None of that sugary nonsense the others are eating."

"They're eating that nonsense because it tastes good." Naruto looked down at his breakfast.

Oatmeal and cut up bananas. The same thing he ate every morning. Not that he would ever complain. The food didn't taste bad and more importantly, it was healthy.

"The others aren't trying to get into U.A. High School." Shikadai, Inojin's best friend said as he walked up to the counter.
"Everyone knows you're the only one who has an actual shot at being accepted. We've got to make sure that you're in the best shape possible."

"I'm fourteen, not a toddler," Naruto said as started to eat right there at the counter.

Ever since he had passed the mock test and received an invitation to take the Entrance Exam his fellow orphans were all about helping him get into the school. They said it was payment for everything he had been doing for them.
I don't want payment. He glared at his bowl oatmeal as he stuck a spoonful into his mouth.

Back when he first started posting his story, Naruto hadn't expected it to get so popular so quickly. And when the money started rolling in after he talked to the Director about selling the story it was only natural that he spent most of the profits on making the orphanage a better place. No one else was going to do it.

Musutafu Japan wanted nothing to do with the Shīdo Orphanage. Or as it was usually called, Warui Shīdo, the 'Bad Seed' orphanage. Home to the sons and daughters of villains who were arrested or killed. The city was more concerned about the children of heroes than they were the children of villains.

So we get pushed into the shadows. Ridiculed for things we had no control over. Naruto hand slowly grew tighter around the spoon he was holding. He had done what he did because it was the right thing to do. Not because he wanted a reward. The others shouldn't feel like they had to repay him for giving them what they should have in the first place.
How the orphanage was even allowed to stay open before he started chipping in was beyond him.

"Oi, Naruto?" Shikadai held up his phone. "It's already 7:40. You only have an hour to get to U.A. You should hurry."

"I know, I know." Naruto scarfed down the rest of his breakfast and left the cafeteria running back up to his room.

It wouldn't take him long to get to the #1 ranked high school for heroics in Japan, but he knew if he didn't leave early the others would just nag him. And why stay home for that?

He threw on a pair of black track pants, and a white t-shirt and his matching sneakers. Until he was actually enrolled in the school he wouldn't get a uniform and the letter he had gotten said to bring clothes comfortable to work out in. Grabbing the black backpack hanging from the door handle he headed to the window in his room.
Downstairs he was sure there was a gathering of kids waiting to send him on his way. Naruto didn't want to have to deal with that until he knew if he was being accepted or not.

There is no point to making a big deal until I pass. He thought as he opened his window and jumped out.

He landed on the ground three stories below his room and grinned as he saw the shocked looks of some of the younger kids out in the play yard. He winked at them and vanished in a burst of speed.
Wind slapped against his face as he rocketed through the streets towards U.A. high. Naruto made sure to keep to the back alleys and off the main roads as he ran. When that wasn't possible and he had to cross an open street he made sure that he was moving so fast that to any other person he was just a flash of black. There one second and gone the next.

Public displays of Quirks are against the law, except in cases of self-defense, such as when one is under attack or preventing someone else from being attacked. He repeated the motto they had taught to in Quirk counseling. It wasn't just a motto, it was a law. And technically he was breaking it. But he wasn't really displaying his Quirk, he was just using it.
In fact, he was making sure it wasn't on display. He still skidded to a stop a block away from his destination. There was no point in testing if the teachers thought his technicality was legal.

Naruto stepped out of the alley he stopped in and started walking at a normal pace towards the school. Many stories high and shaped like a capital H the glass and metal building was a truly awe-inspiring sight. Even to him, and he had been looking at the school for years since he was able to see it from the top of the orphanage.

This is different from seeing it at a distance. He thought. Now he was going to be inside the school.

"I made it. . ."

A short kid, dressed in a middle school uniform, with a mess of dark green hair, walked past him. He was tense and his face looked nervous as he stared up at the building.

Naruto didn't hold the nervousness against the stranger. He was sure there was going to be more than a few teens that were hiding how they felt about the test, but he was also sure no matter what act they put on everyone was a little nervous. This was, after all, their shot to go to the same school as the number one hero.

Or maybe he was just projecting. Naruto shook his head as he entered the school. He followed the line of kids his age through the halls until he saw the sign meant for him

"U.A. High School Hero Course
Exam Orientation"

This is it. He pushed the door open. Inside the room, it was like a movie theater. A large screen in the front with rows of black seats stretching and rising into the back. Most of the seats were already filled and he apologized to a lot of his fellow test takers as he walked through the rows until he found his seat.

As soon as he sat down, like they were waiting on him, the lights on the ceiling flickered casting the room into the dark.

"FOR ALL YOU EXAMINEE LISTENERS TUNING IN, WELCOME TO MY SHOW TODAY. EVERYBODY SAY, HEY!"

At the front of the room, right in front of the screen, the pro-hero Present Mic smiled holding his arms out wide. No one said anything and the famed hero shrugged.

"What a refined response." Present Mic said in a normal voice. "Fine then, I will quickly present to you the rundown on the practical exam! Are you ready? YEAH!"

Naruto having met Present Mic at a hero conference years ago smiled even as he winced at the loud shouting. The U.A. Alumni hadn't lost a beat with his sound. Or his dress code. Mic was still rocking the black leather high collared jacket and pants. And that boom box was still wrapped around his neck too.

"As it says in the application requirements, you listeners will be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles after this! You can bring whatever you want with you." The screen behind Present Mic lit up displaying colored letters.
"After the presentation, you'll head to the specified battle center, okay?"

Naruto looked down at his sheet. He would be in battle center A.

"Three different types of faux villains are stationed in each battle center." Present Mic explained and the screen behind the pro-hero changed.

There was a very simple 3-d model of a city and three black forms surrounding it.

"You earn points for each of them based on their level of difficulty."

One looks like a unicycle with cannons, the second and scorpion looking thing and finally a tank. One, two, three points. Naruto nodded as a retro game replaced the mock city. Present Mic moved through the streets of a fuzzy city destroying one of each villain for a total of six points.

"Your goal, dear listeners, is to use your Quirk's to earn points by immobilizing the faux villains. Of course, attacking other examinees and any other unheroic actions are prohibited!" Present Mic waved a finger at the crowd.

"May I ask a question?"

"Okay." Present Mic shrugged.

Glancing to his right, Naruto looked down his row at the only hopeful student standing.

"On the printout, there are four types of villains. If that is a misprint, then the U.A., the most prominent school in Japan, should be ashamed of that foolish mistake."

The school can afford to create mock cities. A misprint could be easily fixed. Naruto shook his head. It was obvious that the fourth villain was different from the other three.

"We examinees are here in this place because we wish to be molded into exemplary heroes." The kid continued.

Then he turned around and pointed at the same green-haired kid Naruto saw at the front of the school.

"In addition, you over there with the curly hair! You've been muttering this whole time. It's distracting. If you're here on a pleasure trip, then you should leave immediately!"

What an ass. Naruto thought as the other students in the room started to laugh. Calling somebody out like that wasn't cool.

"Okay, okay, Examinee Number 711." Present Mic motioned for the room to quiet down. "Thanks for the great message. The fourth type of villain is worth zero points. That guy's an obstacle, so to speak. There's one in every battle center. An obstacle that will go crazy in narrow spaces. it's not impossible to defeat but there's no reason to defeat it, either. I recommend that you listeners try to avoid it."

The suit-wearing kid that had spoken bowed at the waist. "Thank you very much! Please excuse the interruption."

"That's all from me!" Present Mic announced. "Finally, I'll give you listeners or school motto! The hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said: A true hero is someone who overcomes life's misfortunes. Go beyond. PLUS ULTRA! Now, good luck suffering."

Naruto thought that last bit was a little unnecessary but he didn't mention it as the room started to file out. Everyone seemed more confident after Present Mic's speech.

Plus Ultra. He smiled. That was doable for him. For the others though? Naruto looked around at the competition. Well, he'd find out soon enough if that had what it took. The orientation was over and the real test was beginning.
