Chapter One

She was winded, dehydrated, hungry, lonely. Her clothes tattered, legs tired, and heart racing. But Sarah kept her eyes and mind open, thinking of what to do next, which way to turn. She refused to rest in that endless labyrinth, determined to win her baby brother back, she would do whatever it takes.

"You're too late, Sarah." Jareth's calm voice echoes through the whole labyrinth, but he's nowhere to be seen. Sarah was no longer intimidated by the Goblin King.

"NO! It's not too late! I will not give up! Give me Toby!" Sarah shouts with anger.

She won't give up on bringing her baby brother back. After all, she did put her life - and definitely Toby's - in great danger the moment those stupid words escaped her lips: 'Goblin King, Goblin King, wherever you may be, come take this child of mine far away from me!' She figured it didn't mean anything. she hadn't realized it until moments after, when Toby spontaneously disappeared from his crib, creating an unexpected silence.

"Now, now, Sarah. That's not how you ask." He says, slowly drifting into Sarah's sight. "Is that how you get your way at home?"

"Oh, it's not fair!" She pouts, kicking a wall she knew she had come across many times in this hellish maze.

"I have realized you say that quite often." Jareth didn't want Toby as much as Sarah did, but he did like to watch her struggle, the idea of her failing. "And be careful, hurting yourself won't do you any justice." He pulls a knapsack off his shoulders and pulls innocent Toby out of it.

"I am not asking, I am telling you. Give me my brother!" She yells, jumping out to snatch her helpless sibling from Jareth's hands, but he quickly swerves and pulls the baby to his chest.

"This baby of yours? You don't want him anyway, you said so yourself. So I did you a favor and took him, now your hands are full of nothing but free time. Tell me, is that not fair?" He proved a good point, but not good enough for Sarah. Nothing was good enough to get her to give up.

"I didn't mean what I said. I wasn't expecting this to ever happen. If I had known this would happen, I would have never said it." Her voice was stern. She stepped back as a thought came to her head. "Is this what you do for a living? Take people's children and turn them into your army of Goblins? I mean, what's the purpose?" She was calm, giving Jareth a look of curiosity.

"I know what your trying to do. I could never consider myself as pathetic man, like you do." He responds, not falling for her so-called sympathy. "You have no power over me, Sarah. You should just thank me and get on with your life, should you not?"

Sarah wouldn't keep still as she fought back with her words. Too concerned about taking back Toby - who's oblivious to it all - she didn't notice the swarm of goblins closing in on her, nor did she realize that Jareth was staring straight through her eyes. He was working his magic. He was meaning to erase her mind of any memory of Toby - or any of this chaos, really. He lastly signaled the goblins to drag Sarah's unconscious body out of his sight, and bring her back home.

"Now! You are all mine!" He shouts at the giggling infant, and follows his statement with an evil chuckle.

Chapter Two

I pulled my pillow over my face as the sun peeked through my window. I just laid there for a moment, wondering why I never invested in some curtains. Then it hit me: I'm late! But for what? There was something I had to do, but my mind went blank when it came to what it was.
