Stargazing
Because we all need that one late night stargazing fic for our otp.
Shinoa doesn't quite understand this whole "emotion" thing. She's quite clueless, actually. It's not the she hasn't felt emotions before, or had other not feel things towards her and make them obvious, but rather it was this particular emotion she couldn't seem to wrap her head around.
It seems to be a rather silly yet serious feeling and there's no way to really understand other than to go with it and hope it works.
It can make her heart flutter. It makes her stomach feel as if it's full of butterflies. Her skin tingles with every soft touch from him. But it can also make her heart drop, her stomach churn, her skin burn.
It is so mixed and unusual. Not quite bittersweet; probably more along the lines of sweet with a tad of bitter sprinkled throughout.
His skin is always warm to her, or maybe it's just that she's always been cold.
His hand squeezes hers gently, pulling her away from her thoughts.
"What are you thinking about?" Yuu asks softly.
At the moment, the pair is laying on the roof late at night. They've been watching the stars slowly move throughout the sky, enjoying the other's presence. They've gone between comfortable silences and long talks about anything and everything.
"Love," she replies, her voice quiet and almost small.
"Love?" he questions, he turns his head to look at her.
She doesn't meet his gaze and instead continues to watch the stars. "They're beautiful, aren't they?"
He nods, "Mhm, they are." He lets the pause happen, wondering if she'll continue or if he should ask again.
"It's a sweet feeling," she finally says, "but it also makes me hurt in ways I don't even understand. I'm so scared of the feeling ending or being crushed, but I can't stop thinking about what kind of future there would be if it doesn't end. It makes my entire body tingle with some sort of anticipation, but I don't know what for. It's different. I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about it."
Silence falls between the two as Yuu processes what she's told him.
"I think," he replies, "it's supposed to feel that way. You're supposed to be constantly be on your toes. You're supposed to be scared. And excited. And you're supposed to want to desperately know what comes next, but you can't know until the moment comes and then passes. I think love is supposed to make you want to scream for every reason you can possibly think of."
Neither speak for a while. It seems like hours before Shinoa finally replies to him.
"I think I'm okay with falling in love with you then."
