Potions

It's one in the morning and I'm alone in the Gryffindor common room trying to finish my Potions essay. Yes, I know, James Potter having trouble with an essay? Well, you should know that Potions is my worst subject. Transfiguration? Easy. Potions on the other hand? Ughh.

The only reason I'm taking Potions in the first place is because the position of an Auror requires you to know that subject. Remus is alright at Potions, but even he has trouble. Sirius on the other hand, is excellent at Potions, but just doesn't care to apply himself to school work, and is most likely out snogging his flame of the week. Peter...well, Peter isn't good at much.

"James?"

I look up at the stairs and see a sleepy Lily Evans looking back at me.

"Lily? What are you doing up?" I ask her.

"I couldn't sleep and was coming down to read for a bit. What are you doing down here?" she asks as she sits beside me.

"Trying to write my Potions essay." I answer with a slight smile.

"Maybe I can help, what's the topic?" Lily asks, craning her neck to see what I've written so far.

Of course, how could I forget? Lily is the top of our year in Potions and Charms.

"The Amorentia potion" I answer and I can feel my cheeks heating up.

Wow that's so unmanly... Remind me to never mention that to Sirius; he'll tease me for the rest of my life.

"Didn't we brew that in class last week? The essay is just a summarization of what ingredients were used and a description of what specific smell was that you smelled."

As she says this I feel my face heat up again, because I know exactly what I smelled. Cherry lip balm with a hint of lilies. A smell that is all Lily.

When I look up at her, I see that she is blushing.

"What?" I ask.

"Nothing, I was just wondering what you smelled when making the potion." she answers, looking down at the floor.

"Er... Cherry lip balm and lilies." I answer, looking at her through my fringe.

She blushes at my answer and I take that time to ask her the question.

"What did you smell?"

In a way, I'm dreading the answer, but I'm excited as well.

"Grasswindandheaven" she mumbles quickly.

"Sorry?"

She sighs. "Freshly cut grass, wind, and a heavenly smell, like a cologne."

Her answer could be referring to any of the Quidditch teams, except for the fact that she mentioned that cologne. I wear that cologne.

"Lily?" I ask tenitivly.

"Hmm?"

"I love you; and that's all there is to it."

Her head snaps up and she looks me in the eyes. She sees that I'm serious and smiles.

"I suppose I fancy you a great deal too." She replies.

As I lean forward, I know I have that stupid grin on my face, but at this moment, nothing can wipe it off my face.

Lily's POV

He leans forward with that stupid grin on his face, but it doesn't make him look arrogant like it used to... Now, it's adorable.

As his lips brush against mine, I can't believe that I turned down all his previous offers to snog in a broom cupboard. (in fifth year) But this was definitely worth waiting for.

He breaks away and smiles. I smile back and he says the words I've heard a million times, but never took seriously until now.

"Go out with me?"

"Yes." I answer, leaning forward to kiss him again.

James' POV

The next morning, I walk into Potions with Lily at my side.

"Please bring your homework forward." says Slughorn.

Well, I got the girl, but I guess you can't have everything. My Potions essay is still in the Gryffindor common room, only half done.

A/N: okay, so the 'heaven' smell that Lily smells in this story is a real smell of a boy that I know. I cant describe the smell...but it smells really good, so I call it the scent of heaven. Lol. I think this is one of my better stories, but Marshmallows is still my favourite. So if you plan on reading my other stories, I recommend that one...and any of my newer ones, but feel free to read them all if they appeal to you! :) thanks.
