Talents by asesina
disclaimer: i don't own TVD!
a/n: first Vampire Diaries fic! I love the show, and I think that Katherine is such an interesting antagonist. This is just a quick look at why she's so good at being evil.
I hope you like it!

Katherine is extremely talented at several things.
Her skills happen to be decidedly devious, but she doesn't mind.
In fact, she quite enjoys extolling her own virtues, beginning with her ability to control other people.
She recalls Damon's ice blue eyes flashing with lust all those years ago, and she can still hear him whisper declarations of love as he ran his hands over her shoulders and pulled her tightly against him, foreheads a mere centimeter apart.
What a fool.
Her mind drifts to Stefan. Kind, sweet Stefan with his dark, piercing eyes that regarded her with such trust and friendship decades ago.
She smiles, remembering how he was reluctant and almost shy when he first fell under her spell. He was so different from his brother, she noted. It was hard to believe that they came from the same womb.
Katherine remembers the way that they looked at her and savors it, knowing that she was victorious the moment they fell in love. She could see it in their eyes back then, and she intends to use it to her advantage tonight at the masquerade ball.
Although Stefan's love for her has long since cooled, she can sense that Damon has held onto her memory far longer than his brother has.
She hopes that he will hesitate when he sees her chocolate eyes imploring him to forgive her, and she knows that her honey voice will dissuade him from putting a stake through her heart.
Humans are much easier to control, but witches can be tricky.
However, she's no slouch. Lucy is harder to control, but Katherine can be quite persuasive.
She's going to the party tonight with a mission, and she has full confidence that she'll pull it off. Katherine feels all powerful as she dons a slinky night dress and a feathered mask.
She adds a little bounce to her step and a swivel to her hips as she moves to blend in with the boorish twenty-first century teens at the party.
Katherine is just as good at lying as she is at manipulating others, and intimidating her pretty little doppelganger is an incredibly easy feat.
She feels on top of the world in those stiletto heels, but she downplays her confidence to a cooler kind of calm, assuming a nondescript demeanor as she saunters her way through the party.
Katherine enjoys hiding the fact that she has a nearly limitless source of power hidden behind her feigned laughter and averted eyes.
She's faking her way through the evening, but she has to admit that it's a little fun.
If she's going to get what she wants, why not enjoy herself?
The moonstone is within her reach, and the crowd of around her is an audience of fools (fools that she could kill in an instant, mind you).
It only proves that she has another innate talent: deception.
Katherine is quite pleased to add that to her list of talents as she sidesteps a drunk teenager, stifling a fabricated giggle as she moves through the crowd.
