Prologue
Alundra watched Meia run swiftly into the distance, holding back the overwhelming urge to chase after her, to live in Inoa. To have a normal life. Alas, that was the one thing he could never have. The nightmares he had travelled through haunted him, keeping him awake at night. He needed to keep walking. Taking one last look at the path Meia had walked on, Alundra sighed, turning in the opposite direction, away from friends and any chance of happiness.
The road ahead of him gave off a dark aura. Long and windy, with branches scattered all over the floor. Despite the sun being high in the sky, the road didn't resonate with its friendly brightness that Alundra had become accustomed to whilst staying in Inoa and it's surroundings.
What would he do now?
Where would this road take him?
Would he ever be able to dream peacefully again?
Taking a deep breath, the Dreamwalker began to walk down the caliginous path, instinctively holding onto his dagger. Even with Melzas dealt with, there were still wild beasts to contend with. Alundra wasn't about to take any chances, especially since he had no idea if there was a town nearby.
The beaten road continued for hours, without anyone or anything presenting itself. Trees had started to surround the path, giving it an almost claustrophobic feeling. The silence, and the environment itself, reminded Alundra of Kline. A strong hunter with a heart of gold who, in a cruel twist of fate, had to be killed by Alundra himself.
Remembering that horrible night, Alundra's legs began to buckle. His stomach churning and head spinning viciously, he could only hear the desperate, blood-curdling cries made by Kline in his final moments. The terrified screams let out by the villagers as he and Kline battled brutally. Panting heavily, Alundra tried to steady himself, to no avail. Collapsing onto the muddy, sunken ground, a single tear fell down his cheek. His vision was becoming clouded, the branches swaying in the wind moved in a melodic fashion, all of them reaching to embrace the fallen traveller.
"I knew I should have come with you!"
A shadow approached Alundra, taking brisk steps towards him. He recognized that voice, but before he could reply, the world began to fade away, replaced with lonely, piercing darkness.
