Let me get straight to to the point, I created this as a small side project after after finishing the Leviathan series. I really need some feed-back and I have nowhere else to turn. Please tell me whether I should continue writing chapters for this.
Chapter I
"Bloody Hell" I murmured as I trudged through the soggy streets of London. It was 1940 and World War Two as all the men in the village called it, was one year in and going strong. I longed for my mum's hut in our cozy fishing village. Then I thought of what I was about to do and I shivered, but not from the cold. If the government found out my secret, they would probably send me far, far away from where I was now. As I slopped through the wet streets I remembered the conversation I had with my mum before I left. She had begged me not to go, on the account that I'm a girl, and girls can't fight. But I left anyway and most of me believes that I can do this. I finally made it through the rainy streets and walked up to the squat red-brick building with a large sign saying "Join The Navy Now!" I was about to push myself through the door and hope for the best when I realized that I had to pass physical examination. I would never get past the doctors and the strip-bare tactics! As I was about to leave, an officer came, his cap swinging jauntily by his side. I tried to make myself scarce but he saw me and hurried over. "Say chap, are you joining up? I can help you!" The officer had a thick shock of brown hair and dark brown eyes. He took me under his shoulder and I was thankful he didn't move his hand any lower. He sauntered up the steps, me dragging behind and into the building we went. I was shaking by the time we got to the door of the doctors office and before I had time to contemplate what was about to happen, we walked right by it! Despite one half of my brain yelling for me not to speak up, I meekly asked the officer whether we were going to stop at physical examination."physical examination!" he roared "you don't need physical examination, your perfectly fine!" He lowered his tone "Plus, we need new meat for the war effort." Breathing a silent prayer to God, and every other God that I knew of for this miracle, we turned yet another corner, we came upon a door with "Join The Army!" And "Join The Navy!". Posters stuck all over it. We walked through the door and came upon an extremely fat man with a large mustache."Hello there Laddie! And what'll be your name?" This I had prepared for "Ethan Madith I lied. Well I didn't lie fully I just didn't say my first name. "well Ethan, what branch will you be in, eh? The man asked using a very Scottish accent. "Navy" I replied without thinking, My father was a fisherman and his father before. "Ok then, good choice Ethan." the man replied with a smile, "That branch will show you the world for sure." Fifteen minutes later I stumbled out of the recruitment office, clutching a letter to my chest. It was a what the Scottish recruiter had called a "call to arms" letter. It gave me my ship, date to report to duty and what I had to bring. As I headed back to Liverpool on the three o'clock train half of my mind praised myself for joining up and the other half told me it was madness and you should not be doing this, and on and on. By the time I got on the ferry my mind was in a fullout war.
