Once-ler stepped of his wagon and onto the fresh grass in the Truffula forest. Trees of Pink, Orange, and Magenta stretch out as far as the eye can see. The man breathed in the crisp air and gave a quick look around. "This place is absolutely beautiful!" exclaimed Once-ler as he watched the Swomee Swans flew overhead. They sang a joyful song and danced in the air. Once-ler looked in the trees. Small bear-like creatures dubbed Bar-ba-loots, scurried down the trunk of the tree with the tree's fruits in their mouths. In the rivers pouring all throughout the forest, orange fish hummed along to the birds beautiful music. The sun shined brightly and it's rays danced along with the world around him.
Indeed, it was a very beautiful place. Once-ler's blue eyes scanned the scenery one last time before he turned on his heels and walked towards the wagon. He brushed his black hair out from his face as he pulled out a rather large axe. The tall male also pulled out a pair of gardening gloves and slipped them onto his slender hands.
With a smile, Once-ler turned his attention to the Truffula tree closest to him. He walked towards it, slinging the axe over his shoulders. He gave the tree one last look at it in all it's glory.
"Alright... Here we go!" Once-ler raised his axe, aiming for the base of the tree. He closed his eyes, envisioning his invention; the Thneed, in the hands of a happy and satisfied customer. He gave one powerful swing. The axe manages to enter the bark of the Truffula tree. All the creatures watched. Once-ler pulled the axe out of the tree's bark and gave it another swing, hitting the same spot. The Swomee Swans squawked and took off. The Humming fish retreated into the river. All the Bar-ba-loots yelped and fled into the forest. Not noticing the critters running off, Once-ler kept hacking away at the tree. Not long, The tree fell towards him.
Once-ler stepped out of the way. pleased of his hard work. Suddenly. a cold feeling came over him. "...?" Once-ler jolted forward into the path of the tree's fall. He turned to run out of it's way but his right arm got caught under the tree.
On the ground and pinned by a tree. Once-ler felt around for his axe. "Where? Where, WHERE IS IT GOD DAMMIT?!" Panic flooded the man. He grabbed the handle of the axe and swung it at his right arm. He chopped it off his arm out of desperation for escape. The pain coursed throughout his body. Once-ler got up, shaking. Tears rolled down his face. His clothes were drenched in his own blood. He hobbled away from the tree and towards his wagon. Melvin, his mule whinnied and ran off. leaving him in the forest.
"M-Melvin, Melvin WAIT!" He screamed out for his mule to stop but it didn't. "WAIT!" He hollered out.
He turned around and spotted a boulder rolling towards him.
He gave up by then. The man accepted his fate with a defeated laugh.
"D-Dammit... Heh Heh..." Once-ler's eyes twitched as the boulder kept rolling towards him.
Closer,
and closer,
and closer.
