Chapter One: I become a jock (I guess)

It all started when my mom bought me a basketball for Christmas. (Guess what, it was blue.) She said we could go to our cabin and practice. I wasn't all that excited, I have to admit. Basketball wasn't really one of the top things on my to do list. That summer I played a lot of basketball, I guess my mom thought I had a gift or something, but I realized it wasn't the worst game in the world. After playing all summer I started to get pretty good at basketball, and then I realized I had a chance…

When I went back to school at Rupert Brown's Academy, I was a little shocked, this school was actually a pretty big school. Right outside of Manhattan, it was a school of about 1,500 middle schoolers. I quickly felt my pocket, and… wait… where was my pen… Oh I left it in my locker. I sprinted to my locker and I grabbed it.

"Percy Jackson." said someone behind me. I whirled around and saw Michael, this kid I met at orientation.

"Watsup." I coolly replied.

"I saw you playing basketball this summer, are you going to try out for the team this year?" he said.

"Maybe, why are you?" I inquired.

"Of course, I mean it is my favorite sport."

"Oh cool, well school started so I gotta go." That was weird how does he know my last name, unless… He was a monster. Mental note to self: watch that kid. I walked to my class, history. As soon as I walked in, I heard breathing down my back. I turned around and saw the albino short kid, Jerry.

"Sorry, I just wanted to feel cool." He said shyly.

"Oh, congratulations." I said sarcastically. He walked away. I sat down and tried to listen to the teacher, but my mind just wasn't there, all of a sudden Annabeth came into my mind. My girlfriend was always showing up at my school when least expected. Of course with her invisible cap no one could see her. All of a sudden the class was quiet and I realized the teacher was staring at me.

"Percy, what is the god of the sky?" Mrs. Gretski asked me.

"Ha-ha that's funny, Zeus" I said casually.

"O K correct!" she said.

After class was basketball practice. I went there because I got to skip the worst class in the world… P.E. Instead I got yelled at and ran a lot. At the end of practice coach asked if he could speak with me. This certain person looked familiar. When he started talking to me, I recognized his voice… he was my soccer coach back when I was like eight.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't Percy Jackson himself" he teased.

"Hello coach" I said.

"I'm impressed" he replied.

"Oh really"

"I would like to have you on the team" Whoa, hold on there, did he just actually let me on the team…

"I'd love to"

"Great" I then left the gym feeling a little happier. Then all of a sudden I saw Jerry sitting in a corner, crying. I went up to him, and I asked him what was wrong, and he said he saw a guy with one eye. And how he… wait did he just say One eye. I quickly took him into the restroom and pulled out my pen.

"What is this?"

"A pen, why am I here?" I then asked him if he was going to tell if I showed him something. He timidly shook his head. I then uncapped riptide and…

"It's a sword, OMG it's awesome, and it's bronze!" Whoa, not expecting that. This guy wasn't cringing so he wasn't a monster, and he could see through the Mist, so he was probably a half blood. This was bad. I had to think of a way to get him to help… and fast.

When we walked out, it was lunch. I told him to follow me, and he did. We went into the gym and I started to practice my shots for basketball, and all of a sudden Michael came behind me and challenged me to a quick basketball game. It is then when I turned and saw Jerry shaking. In a voice just over a whispered he hoarsely said:

"It's him"
