Contradictions

...

Your Alice meant you could sniff out a person's essence long before they approached your boundary.

You knew so much about a stranger, enough to make your skin roll and perch on guard.

This meant you had a fixed judgement, something not even a lick from your deep-buried optimistic side could change.

You would, but you just couldn't. It always left an unpleasant after-taste, so you were conditioned to avoid it. It was an arduous balance to strike, but you favoured your dominant faction. It suited your need to push the omniscience of characters to the furthest recesses of your mind.

But days like today, you loathe that side.

What if you hadn't been mouthy to that doe-eyed, cheerful brunette? One who reeked a queer mix of idealism and melancholy, the latter being a territory you trudged waist-deep in. She smiled through every hiss, every snarl, every glare.

She didn't deserve it. No one did. But she has ghosts, just like you do, and you haven't the emotional capacity to open tightly sealed doors just yet.

You could, but you just wouldn't.

But you would kill for that. Kill to get a feel of a person from scratch. With no cognition of their person, just to unravel the intricate yarn with your claws, revealing their innermost body of work. Learn their flaws, their strengths, even their regularity. Even learn to form connections; relationships. Maybe then, you'll learn to trust.

It was a cursed blessing, an oxymoron; just like a cat-dog.
