Tardis Lullaby
Prompt: Surrender
Characters: 10th and Jack, though I am not saying who this is speaking…:D
PG-13 to be safe.
Set: Well before 10's regeneration, and after Children of Earth for Jack, though there is no mention of it here.
He can feel his eyes unfocusing, refocusing, trying to bring the familiar face into view, without having to rely strictly on the memory that is perfectly clear in his mind… the familiar smirk, the ruffled hair, top buttons undone to show just a little bit of the shirt underneath, strong muscles in the neck disappearing beneath cotton…
He shouldn't be having this much trouble breathing, either, but he lets that past. No doubt he's made a lot of people breathless in his long life, and will, no doubt, make more in the centuries to come. And, he reflects, feeling his lungs straining to pull air back into themselves, he'll do so in every impossible way. It is what he does best, after all.
Maybe, he thinks, as he leans into the embrace that takes in all that he is, all the armour he wears (and why else would he wear that flowing a coat, really, if it wasn't symbolic armour, something he can hide behind), maybe there is one reason that kiss is so much different than the others that they have shared across the cosmos.
This isn't a goodbye.
This isn't a token gesture, or a distraction, or an attempt to block away the horrific memories that plague them both.
It is a key to an enduring puzzle that requires complete surrender of self to even understand that you will never totally understand the pieces, let alone the whole picture that is him.
This isn't goodbye.
It's hello.
