paper hearts
Amelia Pond often sits up in the middle of the night staring upwards at the sky.
The stars in America don't shine as bright as they do in England. They are covered in a layer of pollution and broken dreams making them as dull as a piece of dirty jewelry. Sometimes she'll try to touch them as she would when she was still with him. Most days, she wakes up thinking it was her room with the childish bunk bed and endless possibilities on that magical blue box. Her thoughts instantly going to where and when that man was going to take them that day. A smile speads across her face, but then reality hits.
And it strikes her like a lightning bolt.
She's not actually on board the TARDIS. Outside two doors doesn't wait a new planet, it has a life where she'll do the same routine day after day after day after daydaydayday. No more adventures into the great unknown. No more raggedy man in that stupid bow tie. Her heart becomes paper and it burns and tears until she cries from the constant destruction. On those rare days, sometimes (only for a couple moments) consider giving up Rory for trips across the stars, but she wouldn't do that and she can't take back her decision.
Stitches and medication doesn't have the ability to pull together a broken life.
