When Neko-san was Late!
Merodii- ^_^ Yet another slightly Kyou/Kagura-ish ficcie. Muahaha... But, this one is about God's Banquet. So, it's technically not Kyou/Kagura. It's Cat/Boar. Kinda. Just read and you'll see!!! It's based on a different version of the old zodiac story that I saw online onetime! ^_^ I think it turned out okay.
Kagura- Merodii doesn't own Furuba! If she did, Kyou and I would be the main characters!!!

One day, God decided to choose animals to form a calendar system for the world. He held a banquet, and said that the first twelve animals to arrive would be part of his calendar. The animals jumped at the idea.
The cat was talking to his best friend, the rat, "We're so small, I don't think we'll ever be one of the first twelve."
The cow, a kind and generous creature, volunteered to let the cat and the rat ride upon his back.
The day of the banquet, the cow set off, making pleasant conversation with the rat and the cat lounging on a large black spot on the cow's wide back.
They came to a bridge, and the rat, using all of his strength, pushed the cat off of the cow's back into the rushing water! The cow, sadly, did not notice the cat was pushed off, and continued over the bridge.
Now, cat's aren't the best swimmers, and he was struggling to keep his head above water.
One-by-one, more animals began to cross the bridge. The young rabbit tried desparately to help the cat, but the dog scooped up the rabbit, placing him on the horse's back, safely away from the cold river's waters. The dog wanted to save the cat, but he couldn't leave his three puppies alone on the bridge. He smiled sympathetically, and moved on. More animals crossed. The snake knew the rat extremely well, and refused to help the cat. The monkey was swinging from tree-to-tree, and that's not the best way for a cat to travel. The tiger didn't see the small orange figure struggling in the water. The sheep couldn't hear the cat, because of the long, soft wool surrounding his ears. The rooster had only wings, and wouldn't be able to pull the cat from the water. The dragon was soaring to high overhead to see or hear the cat.
The cat gave up hope, no one would save him. he thought of letting the cold, harsh water end his misery.
The cat closed his eyes, about to dive underwater and stay there until he died. Then, he heard a faint calling.
"I'm coming to get you, Neko-san!"
It was the boar. She was obnoxious, and, occasionally, dangerous, but she cared deeply for the cat.
She pulled his cold, shivering body from the river. He fell unconscious.
Hours later, the cat woke up in a coughing fit. The boar was still there, waiting patiently for the cat to awaken. "What about the banquet?" he said.
"A banquet's not nearly as important as you, Neko-san!"
God must've heard the boar say that, because his voice echoed over the land.
"There's still room for one more, at the banquet."
The cat smiled, "You go, and I'll follow."
So, the boar was awarded the twelfth position on the calendar, and she was awarded the friendship and trust of the cat.
And, the cat was shunned by all but God and the boar, for only these two knew how generous and kind a late Neko-san can be.

Merodii- ^_^ I thought writing it with the animals was kinda kawaii! And, I tried to match how the animals acted to their Sohma counterparts. That part didn't work too well.... XD Ah, yes, and that fic isn't how it all happened, I changed and added a little bit to make it long enough. ^_^ Heh.
Kyo- Umm... R&R.
