Simple

It was simple enough to say that Minako loved him. What wasn't so simple to say was that she was in love with him? Many would have gasped at the fact that Kunzite's wife couldn't say that she was in love with him. So when all she received upon her declaration of disloyalty were a few dismayed shakes of heads and uncertain smiles, Minako was shocked. Even Luca, their eight-year-old son didn't look surprised.

Later, after Ayumi had unwrapped her presents and the kids had all run outside to play, Kunzite quietly pulled her off to the side. His eyes were full of concern and he didn't look the least bit angry, perhaps upset but Minako couldn't detect any anger in his eyes. It was weird.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked quietly, glancing back to make sure nobody was eavesdropping on them.

Collecting her nerves, Minako nodded. "I'm sure." His only response was a saddened smile and a slight nod of head.

"Alright then," Kunzite moved his hands from her wrists and up to her shoulders. "I guess this is goodbye then?" He planted a soft kiss on her forehead and slowly drew away.

"Shouldn't you be heartbroken or angry at me for doing this?" She whispered, eyes flickering uncertainly to his. Kunzite shook his head; his previously combed back hair bouncing lightly along the edge of his hairline.

He grinned crookedly, the same grin that had attracted Minako to him when they were younger. "Remember," he said, "I was your best friend before I was your anything else."
