"Demon!"
"Monster!"
"Freak!"
The voices of the villagers echoed in her head as she ran through the forest. Ever since her family was murdered by thieves, other humans had treated her differently. At first, it was pity. Then fear, which was always followed by hatred.
As a child, traveling and never staying one place for more than a day or two, it hadn't been so bad. But now, she was older and often had to revisit places that she has passed through. The villagers knew her and were afraid of her.
It was well known that she traveled in the company of demons. Most people were convinced that she was bewitched by the demons or a powerful sorceress. Others just believed her to be cursed and she was sometimes chased from villages by a raging mob.
She couldn't hold it against them; they were just trying to protect their loved ones. The young girl had never been able to hate another being in her whole life.
Today, she had managed at least to acquire all of her supplies before being chased out of the small village. She hugged them tightly to her chest as she ran, tears streaming down her face.
She had to admit, at least to herself, it hurt to be called those names. She had never hurt anyone in her life, even if they were hurting her. She just wanted to go somewhere for once without fearing the moment she was recognized. A quiet sob escaped her lips and she felt a hand on her arm. She looked up to see Lord Sesshomaru looking at her intently.
He stared at her for a moment and she stared back, tears drying on her cheeks. His lips curled into the smallest of smiles, but she saw it. She returned it with a big beaming smile of her own. He put his hand on her head.
"Let's go, Rin." He said and started walking away.
"Yes, my lord!" she chirped happily, trotting closely behind him.
Humans and their feelings toward her didn't matter. She had her Lord Sesshomaru and that was the only thing in the world that truly mattered to her.
