Chapter 1

The sun set was amazing. Lexi Summers thought, her chestnut hair shaping her face perfectly, her golden shirt suit the sunset while her jeans stood out against the light. Her pale skin looked as if it was glowing from the suns reflection. Lexi wondered what it was like in Middle Earth, her favourite place to dream about. She always loved the work Tolkien produced, and wished to be in his world.

Lexi shut her book, 'The Hobbit', and then walked passed the shops. She was too busy daydreaming that she accidentally bumped into a hooded figure. He had this deep red cloak on that hid his appearance. He was mysterious and creepy, and was scaring Lexi. She went to apologize to the man. She was truly sorry. Lexi opened her mouth when the mysterious man reached out with on finger and taped her softly on the forehead.

When he did, she went into a deep slumber as her world changed for a certain quest that involved one hobbit, one wizard and thirteen dwarves in the world she loved.

As Lexi awoke, she was taken bye the softness of the grass. It reminded her of the meadow at the back of the park. Wait a minute! She screamed to herself. She immediately sat up. Grass? Last I remember, I was on concrete in the shopping mall, Lexi thought looking around. She was in a forest, filled with Oak wood, outside of a little and interesting village. That grew her attention.

She stood up and walked to the road she saw. The dirt path was littered with houses here and there, but Lexi was looking for just one to help her. She saw an interesting one, which was right in front of her. Lexi walked to a house marked with the name; Bilbo Baggins. I can't be in Shire. No way! She squealed in delight because she always wanted to be here, and suddenly felt sick. What about my family? What will they think of my disappearance? Lexi thought feeling homesick. This was not how she imagined saying goodbye to everyone.

She watched the green, small and wooden door that reminded her like a porthole open. Her curiosity got the better of her when she leaned forward and watched. A Hobbit comes out. It can't be Bilbo! She smiled slightly. There he was, standing right before her. He was inclined in the stomach, wore a white undershirt with a crimson vest which had a floral design, and a green sash. His brown, curly hair was nicely brushed. Lexi didn't know why she was observing him while she was up to him.

"Excuse me, I don't want to cause you any trouble but can you please help me?" Lexi asked her voice sweet and kind. She didn't want to seem hostile to him at all fro she might scare him.

"Of course I can. What is troubling you?" Bilbo asked. Lexi looked down at her feet. She was scared that when he found out, he would send her off. But of course, she was just being paranoid. Lexi sighed and told him her strange story.

"I was wondering, even for a little while, if I could stay until I find my feet again?"
"Well you can stay with me," he said kindly, "I have a spare room for you to use. Please, please come in, and make yourself at home." Bilbo said opening the wooden gate for Lexi. Lexi walked through, tanking him. She opened the green door and she went to the spare room admiring the house. It was exactly how she imagined it. Every single feature was how she drew the house years ago, for an art project. Lexi found her room and she sat on the bed, as Bilbo came in moments later, carrying a tray.

"Would you like something to eat?" He asked. Lexi nodded, smiling and Bilbo put a glass of water and a few biscuits beside her on the dresser. Lexi grabbed the cup, and realized her hands were shaking.
"You know I still don't know your name, could you please tell me?" Bilbo asked as Lexi took a sip.

"Sure, my name is Lexi Summers" Lexi said kindly.

"Feel welcomed to explore the house and get used to your surroundings please. I will be outside if you need anything." Bilbo said smiling before exiting her room and walking outside. As soon as he was out of sight she put the cup down and rested her head in her hands. She couldn't believe it. She had left everyone alone. Everyone she cared about. Lexi felt hot, wet tears flow down her face as she gasped for air. Enough! Lexi mentally slapped herself. She lifted her head back up and used her sleeve to wipe her eyes dry. Lexi grabbed a cookie and munched on it lightly as she noticed it had a mirror and almost dropped the cookie. She stood up and moved closer. She had dirt smeared all over her oval-shaped. Her chestnut brown hair had twigs ticking out of it and she started to pull them out. After about three minutes of a good scrubbing, Lexi lifted her head again and looked in the mirror. Her brown eyes, usually full of warmth, were now cold and empty like a dungeon. Lexi sighed as she walked into the dinning room and sat there thinking of how she was going to get back to her family.

As the morning went on Lexi had walked outside and sat next to Bilbo. She smiled and began to read a book he leant her earlier in the morning. Even though she was trying to get home, it didn't mean that she didn't want to not experience the time she had here. She was very excited to be in her dream place. She even had taught herself how to read and say the different languages. Boy had it been confusing at first, but she got it eventually. As she read about Bilbo's great, great, great, great uncle Bullroarer Took, she didn't notice that a shadow had fallen over her and Bilbo.

She looked up when Bilbo said good morning to a stranger. And a stranger he was. He was an old man with a staff. He had a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, a silver scarf over which a white beard hung down below his waist, and immense black boots. Lexi immediately recognized him from her reading 'Lord of the Rings' so many times and watching the movies over and over again.

"Good Morning!" said Bilbo, and he meant it, Lexi could see as he was happy and cheerful. The sun was shining very brightly, make Gandalf's face erupt with lots of light, and the grass was very green that only came naturally, which Lexi had noted. But Gandalf looked at them from under long bushy eyebrows that stuck out further than the brim of his shady blue hat. Lexi tried to hide her excitement, Gandalf the Grey! She thought eagerly. She would know that name anywhere and his appearance. Oh what fun she had watching her brother dress up as him for Halloween.
"What do you mean?" he said, obviously looking to strike a conversation with Bilbo, and Lexi didn't want to be left out. "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?"
"All of them at once, I suppose" said Lexi, trying to see if she would be ignored or not. Gandalf turned to her and Lexi sort of cowered against the wooden chair. That stare. "And a very fine morning for a pipe of tobacco out of doors, into the bargain." She finished, mumbling about never going to smoke in her life.
"Can I help you?" Bilbo asked uncomfortable sensing Lexi's discomfort, and it was adding to his own.

"It remains to be seen. I'm looking for someone or two, to share in an adventure" Gandalf said. Lexi looked up again at both of them. The pieces of the puzzle all fitted together as she understood why Bilbo looked so young. It was the adventure of The Hobbit! The book she had left behind when she mysteriously arrived here.

"An adventure?" Lexi asked suddenly paying attention from her mind drabble.

"No, I don't imagine anyone west of Bree, would have much interest in adventures. Nasty, disturbing, uncomfortable things. Make you late for dinner" Bilbo said showing a look of disgust. H was clearly uncomfortable as Lexi tried to hold her smirk and caught a knowing look from Gandalf. Just you wait Bilbo, just you wait, Lexi thought as she looked back at Bilbo.

He got up, shuffled to his mail box , opened the latch and collected his mail. As he shuffled through the parchment, he still saw that Gandalf was there. Lexi took this opportunity to examine Gandalf to see if he looked different from the book. His long grey cloak hid his actual clothing and Lexi looked at his walking stick. It had this spiral pattern going. It was quite nice. The only difference was that his hat was blue, like in Lord of The Rings movie.

"Good morning!" Bilbo said after collecting his mail, grabbing Lexi's wrist and walking furiously and swiftly back to the front door as if he was trying to run inside.
"To think that I should have lived to be good- morninged by Belladonna Took's son, as if I was selling buttons at the door!" Gandalf said in a bit of annoyed tone at Bilbo.
Bilbo let Lexi's wrists go and turned back to Gandalf with a surprised look.
"Beg your pardon?" Bilbo asked him entirely confused.

"You've changed, and not entirely for the better, Bilbo Baggins." Gandalf stated in a matter of factly tone that made Lexi's smirk show slightly.
"I'm sorry, do I know you?" Bilbo asked astonished. Lexi put a hand on Bilbo's shoulder as she waited for the revealing of Gandalf's name to Bilbo.

"Well you know my name, although you don't remember I belong to it. I'm Gandalf, and Gandalf means," Gandalf gave a dramatic pause, as if he was thinking of the right word, "me!" Gandalf finally exclaimed looking at Bilbo expectantly.
"Gandalf? Not Gandalf, the wandering wizard who made such excellent fireworks? Old Took used to have them on Midsummer's Eve! Well! I had no idea you were still in business." Bilbo said appearing as though he broke out of the memory. Gandalf look like he took offence and Lexi admitted in her mind that she wouldn't blame him. That was extremely rude and vert hard not to take offence of.
"And where else should I be?" Gandalf questioned him as Lexi held her breath suddenly very frightened for her friend's sake.
"Well..." Bilbo said uncomfortably fidgeting with his mail as she swayed slightly from side to side like the leaves in a breeze.
"Well," Gandalf said after what felt like to be an eternity, "I'm pleased to find you remember something about me, even if it's only my fireworks." Gandalf said nodding to himself. "Well that's decided. It'll be very good for you and your human friend Lexi Summers, and most amusing for me. I shall inform the others." Gandalf said nodding to himself once again. Lexi looked alarmed. How did her know my name? Then again it was Gandalf, what didn't he know?
"Inform the who...? What...?!" Bilbo seemed confused before he regained his common sense. "No! No! No, wait." He said taking Lexi's wrists again, "We do not want any adventures here, thank you. Not today, not... I suggest you try over the hill or...across the water. Good morning." Bilbo said pulling Lexi inside against her will. This was not how she imagined meeting Gandalf the Grey at all.
