Rivalry

Series: Two Drabbles/ One-shot

Rating: Well PG/T

Warnings: None that I can think of… well but if you really really want it, there could be some itty bitty tiny indication of slash or, god beware, incest. But you know, Readers are liable for their fantasies ;)

A/N: Well this is just some late night one-shot. So just some meddling in our favorite chara's minds. Have fun.

Disclaimer: Well, you all know it, but I say it nevertheless again. The Characters and their past is all Kaori Yuukis. I just borrow them for some fun on my part, so no money's made with this… really!

Rivalry

Once there was a time when all that Master Cain needed was Riff's presence, his comforting touch and familiar sense.

It was enough for Riff to stay at his Masters side at all times. To share his tears and his laughs, far in between as they may be. That was Riff's only desire. Because then the tiny, egoistic part of himself could dream of being the only one for Cain.

But that was not of any importance anymore.

Now there was Miss Mary. And she was like the sunshine. Now being the source of his Masters laughs and joys. Of course it was wonderful for their little "family". And Riff loved miss Mary dearly enough.

Even though at times he's just a little bit angry.

But then there's his young Master, needing his touch still.

Not as a servant, but as a loved one.

Because Riff is the one to accompany Cain to hell and beyond.

And whatever may come to them,

Riff knows that this is 'his place'.

And not even Miss Mary can take it from him.

Mary remembers a time when she had no one, only Eric.

But then there was Cain, her big brother. When there had been no one for her anymore, he was the one to take her in, swearing to protect her. And through all that she had come to love her new family like no other.

Since that time Mary had wished to be close to Cain, to be his one and all, like he was for her. She had tried her best at making him smile, feeling giddy and happy whenever he graced her with his beatific laugh.

But whenever her brother was in trouble he seemed to close up. And not even her most cheerful act could bring Cain to share his worries. At least not with her!

Of course, Mary loved Riff dearly enough, but she couldn't help the small ache, whenever the two of them shared those looks. The ones that showed an understanding and acceptance beyond words.

But then there's Cain again, worrying about her, laughing with her, needing her to be happy and cheering him up.

Because Mary's the one to brighten Cain's life.

And whatever the future brings,

Mary knows that this is 'her place'.

And not even riff can take it from her.
