I will remember you.

They spent the rest of the day, until the stars shone brilliantly white, sitting on a park bench talking. Occasionally Junpei would pause to ask if anyone didn't want the rest of their ice cream (despite the fact that his, too, was uneaten) or Tomoki would sigh and look up, bringing a long and peaceful lull in the conversation.

They traded phone numbers, e-mails, house addresses and tears. They talked about everything they could remember. When they ran out of things they remembered, they started talking about things that could have been, and that was when they decided to stop and go back to remembering rather than regretting.

"You know," Takuya said as the sun was setting, "I never really thought about sunsets before." He put up a hand as though blocking out and catching the sun at the same time. "Just kind of lived my life. What can we do now?"

"We have to go on." Junpei bit into his cone. "Somehow. Go home and return to the way things were. Maybe we'll be able to put it behind us one day."

"Hopefully not," Izumi said. "That'd be awful. Do you think one day we'll forget about everything that happened?"

Tomoki looked at his cell phone as the others chatted quietly about how ice cream tasted so weird after lost months of eating whatever they could scavenge apart from the occasional hostage meal from Toucanmon. The device looked rather dead, and he didn't like it.

"Hey." The group looked towards him. "Don't they look weird? The phones, I mean. I hold it in my hand and feel like Kumamon should be there, but he isn't."

It was too different without those things, and they were only children. Koichi's face turned white. His brother took a hold of his hand, and the boy trapped in darkness swallowed his fear and spoke.

"…I feel like a lot of things should be there, and they're not. Kazemon said it to Izumi, right? We left a part of us back there. It's not like you can become a Digimon and then lose it- and whatever happens, I'll be happy knowing I left a part of me with you guys, too."

So they parted with a promise.

"I'll remember you, guys," Takuya said, and they all agreed.

The newspaper the next day ran a cover story about the apparent electrical storm that knocked out Shibuya Station's power for an hour and a half. Exclusive interviews with hysterical businesspeople poked fun at stories of giant dragons with dark orbs and flying polar bears with machine guns. It was a funny thing, and people quickly forgot about it.

He cut out a tiny snippet that had been printed on the back page- about the 'Shibuya Hospital Miracle', where after the storm five children revived a boy in a coma with their sadness and love.
