A suicide occurred in an isolated house in the outskirts of Las Pegasus resided by two ponies, May Flower and Blossom Sprout. May Flower was found dead, and afterwards Blossom Sprout moved somewhere else due to investigators constantly entering the scene of the incident.
It was certified that no pony entered the house for more than 24 hours before May Flower's death, so the only witness was Blossom Sprout, who claimed May Flower killed herself.
A week past, and no one found anything that contradicted the claim. So the case was declared a suicide.
Nonetheless, Fluttershy and Rarity were sent to investigate the case one more time.
After entering the abandoned house, the two took a quick look around the living room. Everything was completely untouched. Across the room were the two bedrooms that belonged to the two roommates. There was also two rooms on the right side of the living room: the kitchen and the washroom. The left side was just a wall with windows.
"The bedroom on the right belonged May Flower. That was where the suicide took place. Let us go there." Rarity suggested.
Fluttershy agreed, feeling slightly scared.
Rarity gently opened the door, as the two entered the bedroom, in search of anything suspicious.
Rarity suddenly noticed something on the other side of the room. On that wall, there was a mirror that was directly facing the door, and behind it was a handle of something that looked like a knife. She walked towards it and picked up the item.
It was a knife alright, but the blade was not only incredibly dull, but more than half of it was broken, and that broken piece was nowhere to be seen. Besides, the "knife" had no blood on it, so chances were it had little to do with the death, if any.
"Rarity, what does redrum mean?" Fluttershy suddenly asked.
"Pardon, darling?" Rarity asked. She walked up to where Fluttershy was, which was behind the back of the door.
There was a word written in red on it: REDRUM
"I have no idea what that is. Is it some wine brand?" Rarity wondered.
"The door smells like its rusting, just like rusty iron. But it makes no sense since this is a wooden door." Fluttershy commented.
The two walked around the room looking for anymore clues, but everything else seemed entirely ordinary. After 20 minutes, they decided to leave and go investigate somewhere else.
Rarity exited May Flower's room and Fluttershy followed right after her. When she turned around and was about to close the door, she saw a sight through the mirror that made her skin crawl.
Two days later, Blossom Sprout was arrested and deemed guilty for homicide. The following day, she was executed.
When the news were out, a journalist interviewed Fluttershy for how she figured out the truth, she simply replied:
"Write the word 'redrum' and read it through the mirror. Also, wood cannot smell like rusty iron. Blood can."
That's right, "redrum" is "murder" when read through a mirror. It was written with blood, and May Flower was the only one who died, May Flower wrote that with her blood on the door as evidence that she was killed by some pony else. And considering no one was in the house asides from Blossom Sprout when the death occurred, it shouldn't be hard to figure out who was the murderer.
