Lincoln found a secluded area on Zephyr One to gather his thoughts after everything that had gone down on the mission. It had been difficult to get Andrew, er Lash, into the containment unit. More than once Lincoln had willingly made himself the bait. He knew Lash was determined to kill him, so it made sense that he should be the one to draw him out. It worked, but it was a very close call. Thankfully Agent May stepped in and saved him.
"I have a moral obligation."
"I have every right."
"They all deserved it."
Andrew's words still resonated with him and made it difficult to calm down. Shane and his wife didn't deserve to die. They were living a peaceful life in Hollywood. Then there was Robbie, Cara and Russell. All of them were also working hard and contributing to society. None of them deserved to die and Andrew killed all of them.
Just as his thoughts started to spiral out of control, Lincoln was interrupted.
"Excuse me," a woman said as she entered. "Do you mind if I join you?"
He recognized her as the one with the ATCU. Once that dawned on him, he panicked and searched for a quick exit.
Seeing the panic in his eyes, Rosalind held up her hands in a placating manner and said, "I just want to talk. That's all."
"Why would you want to talk to me?"
"Funny you should ask that, Mr. Campbell. There are many reasons to talk to you. Most of which are business related."
She took a couple of steps closer to him and stopped a few feet away. "You look so much like him."
Catching Lincoln off guard, he stared at her. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Your father. The resemblance is uncanny."
"How do you know my father?"
Rosalind took a seat across from him. "Well we were very close. He consulted on an op of mine and we hit it off. We started seeing each other. Then, before I knew it, we got engaged and were married."
Lincoln just stared at her in shock.
"He often talked about his lost son."
"I wasn't lost," Lincoln said then looked away from her.
"Then when he got sick, I wanted to do everything in my power to find you, but he wouldn't let me. He wanted me by his side. His ... illness ... progressed quickly and then he was gone."
Lincoln hung his head down. "If I would have known ..."
"He never discussed what exactly happened between the two of you, but I do know he regretted it. He made me promise that I would find you and tell you that he loved you." Rosalind paused a moment then continued, "He would be proud of you for becoming a doctor."
Lincoln wiped a few stray tears from his eyes.
"I do have a question for you, Lincoln."
He looked at her.
"Whatever this is ... this change you went through ... could it have been something that would have saved him?"
Lincoln had to take a moment to consider what she was asking.
"It's a drastic change, but I don't know. Nobody I knew of that went through it had any health issues beforehand, so there is no proof."
"Oh," Rosalind replied.
"Now, may I ask you a question?"
"Of course. Can't guarantee an answer."
"Did you make him happy?"
"Yes, for however brief our marriage was, we were happy."
