Yakisoba Bread

-

One-Shot

The lunch bell had just rung. Instinctively, Sakura grabbed her books and ran straight to the school cafeteria, ravenous from the lack of breakfast. She waited patiently in line.

"Keep moving!" shouted a lunch lady. Sakura hurriedly moved forward to place several plates of steaming food on her tray. When she had situated her food in front of the cash register, the lunch lady looked down.

"You seem hungry," she grunted, punching keys into the register. "Your total." The woman gestured, to

the screen. Sakura dug through her wallet.

Oh, crap.

Last night, she and Rokudo had to exorcise an angry spirit. Her last five hundred yen was gone . . . and so was her meal as the burly woman pulled back the tray.

"Sorry, kid. But rules are rules." the woman apologized, taking the tray aside. "Come back tomorrow."

"Wait! I-"

"No exceptions."

"Can I just-?"

"NEXT!" the lunch lady bellowed, from around Sakura. "Keep the line moving!"

She had no choice but to leave, in the face of hungry high school students.

The girl sighed as she settled on a school bench. Staying in the cafeteria- filled with food no less- was unbearable. So, she found herself sitting at the school's courtyard.

Suddenly, a small package landed on her lap."Here," came a voice, from behind.

Sakura looked down. It was a halve of yakisoba bread.

"Rokudo," she began, touched by his thoughtfulness. "Than-"

"Just eat it." he said gruffly, averting her gaze. "I owe you, anyway."

She then realized where they were; the weather hutch stood at a close distance. Rokudo had his usual haori slung over his shoulder. He stared at her, expecting a lecture on conning classmates. However, it never came.

Instead, Sakura couldn't help but smile as she patted the space next to her.

"Just. . . thank you."

A/N: Thanks for reading my mediocre writing!

It's been very exciting to read Takahashi's new serial. I'm a fan of InuYasha, so hopefully, Kyoukai no Rinne will develope well. As I haven't any clue as to the deep sides of any characters, I'm going to use what we have so far. Cheers to another greet serial!
