She knew she should be afraid. Here was a complete stranger who had just barged into her house. However, when Amanda Bloom looked into those round orbs of sapphire blue, any thought of fear fell away. She looked him up and down. He was young, probably just a little older then she was, and yet, this stranger seemed so much wiser than Amanda ever dreamt of being.
He smiled slightly. He looked worried and confused. She smiled back. It was a gentle and motherly smile. Amanda raised her hand. "Hey," she said, "I'm Amanda."
The smile on his face brightens. It becomes friendly. "Hi, Amanda, I'm Kyle," he said. His voice was deep. It was soothing and somehow, spiritual.
There was a shriek behind Kyle. He jumped and turned around. The teenager just stared. He did not say anything.
"Amanda," shrieked the woman. The cry caused Amanda to stand involuntarily. "Amanda Bloom who is this? Are you all right," she asked.
Amanda opened her mouth. She then closed it. The only thing about this guy was his name – Kyle. "Well," Amanda began, however, she stopped speaking, "He's…"
"I'm Kyle," he interrupted. He held out his hand. A fearful smile was on his face. "I just started to live with the Tragers. I was outside and heard Amanda playing. Her music drew me. I'm sorry for coming over without asking."
"You did more than just coming over without us inviting you! You trespassed," shouted Amanda's mother. She scowled at Kyle. "I should call the police."
His eyebrow cocked. His head went to one side. Amanda could tell he was thinking the same thing – wasn't trespassing and coming over without an invitation the same thing.
"Mom, really it's OK. He did not bug me. I like having an audience, remember," Amanda said, "Please, can you not call the police? Kyle did not do anything wrong. We should be welcoming him to our neighborhood."
"Welcoming him to our neighborhood? Are you serious Amanda," Mrs. Bloom scoffed, "Delinquents should be punished!"
"He's not a delinquent," Amanda shouted, "He's our new neighbor."
Mrs. Bloom looked at Kyle. A frown was on her face. "You had better get going…Kyle. I won't call the police, but if you trespass again, I will call them. Do you understand," she said to him.
Kyle nodded. "Yes, ma'am, I do. I'm really sorry. It won't happen again," he said. Kyle looked over at Amanda. He smiled. Raising his hand, he waved at Amanda.
Amanda smiled back. She raised her hand, returning the friendly gesture. "It was going to meet you, Kyle," she said softly.
"It was…" Kyle began. However, Mrs. Bloom cut him off.
"Go home…where ever that is," she said in a huff. The woman pointed to the door. She stared at him with a steely gaze.
"Bye," he said quickly. Kyle shrugged. He turned and left the house.
"Bye," Amanda whispered. She watched him leave. Turning, she went back to her piano. She slowly sat down onto the bench and began to play.
