Steele Talking

Disclaimer: This story is not in any way associated with the owners of Remington Steele. The characters, except for those I invented for the story, are not owned by me, and the story is not intended to infringe on any copyrights. It is meant as fan fiction and is purely for entertainment.
Summary: Laura and Remington have a chat while she gets ready for an evening out with him. Here's the idea: I read somewhere about an exercise that's supposed to help writers tighten up dialog. Each person is limited to five words or less at a time.
Rating: The only reason I rated it PG vs G was that I leave a lot up to the imagination.
Timeline: Could be anywhere in the series, really, but I envision it as somewhere in the middle.
Feedback: Please! Fill out the review form at the bottom.

"Hi. Come on in."
"Good evening, Laura."
"Nice tux. You look great."
"As do you. Nice towel."
"You're early."
"I know. We should talk."
"Got a topic?"
"You know what it is."
"Can it wait until dinner?"
"Sometimes you amaze me, Laura."
"How so?"
"All you ever want is..."
"...to talk. I know."
"And now you've clammed up."
"Can't talk. Accessorizing."
"What goes with a towel?"
"Mildred told me, you know."
"Told you what?"
"What you said about me."
"When?"
"After our argument today."
"I didn't say anything."
"The intercom was stuck on."
"Oh."
"Well?"
"I meant every word."
"Did you, Mr. Steele?"
"Yes, I did. I do."
"That changes things, doesn't it?"
"Can we stop being naive?"
"I'm not being naive."
"We both are. About us."
"Old habits die hard."
"Why do we do this?"
"What? Fight and make up?"
"Yes. Then it all repeats."
"I think things have changed."
"Because of what I said."
"Uh-huh."
"And you won't talk?"
"I never said that."
"Refresh my memory."
"I said it could wait."
"I don't want to wait."
"Hold on. When you arrived..."
"...I wanted to talk."
"You didn't know I'd heard."
"No, I didn't."
"So, what did you want?"
"To tell you what I said."
"Really?"
"I said I meant it."
"That really does change things."
"Absolutely not. We already knew."
"Could you help me?"
"Be right there, Laura."
"Zip me, please."
"Up?"
"Mmm."
"Down?"
"Up. I really am hungry."
"Nothing's changed."
"What was that?"
"I said nothing's changed."
"We'll see about that."
The End
