"May I buy you a drink?"
(why does my world have so many pretty damn men in it? Only one would have done)
It had been another day filled with nothing but the 'troubles' in Haven so I found myself in the nearest town not in a talking mood but in the need of a strong drink.
"Sure just make it a double scotch and you're my friend for life. By the way the name is Audrey Parker, stranger."
We had one thing in common so far, besides the compulsion to solve those damn mysteries, that we could hold our liquor and our jobs made us need more of it.
(sharing a double malt with Duke was about my best date yet)
"I'm Peter Bishop, and I hope it won't be long before we're not strangers anymore."
He handed me that much needed drink, hoping it would numb the part of my brain that needed to know everything right the hell now (and to crack those riddles), and I shot him a smile.
(not a lot to smile about these days but at how strange everything was)
"You never know, Bishop, sharing a drink is after all a personal thing."
The first time I shared a drink with both Duke and Nathan it had been the thing that finally brought us together as team and now it's a must each week.
(if I could pick it would be every damn day after everything we go through)
"That's why, Miss Parker, I'm choosey when it comes to having a drink with a girl."
It was the same with me, after all it took a while before I let Duke share that drink with me (and send me those over the top flirty eyes all night), and Peter was passing with flying colors.
(and I was hoping this wouldn't be the last double scotch we would share)
"Flattery will get you nowhere with me, Bishop, but still thanks. Why do you need that drink of yours?"
This stranger was already scoring points in my book because I was just so damn sick of being called 'nice.'
(and he was slowly becoming less a stranger by the second, he was starting to become a friend or maybe even more then that)
If Duke says anything other than that in the near future he might get a freaking kiss.
(Nathan had let me go and went his own way to find the drink that would erase today's death toll)
"I had a horrible year at work (well who doesn't?) So I decided it was time for a break, and Haven sounded like a nice place, it's my next stop."
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, Bishop, but Haven is anything but nice. If you don't care for the supernatural and getting brain twisters every other second it isn't the town for you."
Unfortunately for me I live for that, and my old life never left me dip my toes in it until now, and so leaving it behind me is the last thing I can do.
"When there is anything mysterious involved I just can't keep myself away. Would you like to give the official tour, Miss Parker?"
I finished off my drink, trying not to think of all the others I had while thinking about Nathan and his witchy woman (he sure knows how to choose them), took his hand and lead him into my world.
(the stories would blow his mind and his own stories of fringe science would blow my own)
"It's Audrey, Peter, and I'd love to."
