Hermione kissed Dean. When she pulled back, she whispered, "Let's play a game."

"What kind of game?" he huskily asked.

"Well, I want to get to know my boyfriend better, so let's roll a dice. We both roll and whoever has the higher number can ask the other person any question, and they need to answer truthfully."

Dean pouted as she moved away. "That's not the kind of game I was imagining.

Hermione produced a dice from her pocket, showing she had planned this, and rolled. She frowned at the number. "Two. Roll the dice," she ordered, passing it over to Dean.

He grinned, knowing the odds were in his favor. He rolled and blinked at the number displayed. "One? Really? How unlucky is that?"

"Unlucky for you maybe. Now, my question. Did you want to be a Gryffindor?"

Dean grinned. "I didn't really have a preference, although I was surprised I ended up in the house. I never thought I had Gryffindor qualities. I always felt like I was a coward and would do everything I could to avoid battle, even flee. And definitely compared to you, Ron, and Harry, I'm nowhere near brave. Frankly, I always thought I'd be a Hufflepuff."

Hermione frowned. "You are brave. You joined the D.A. and were ready to resist Umbridge. Maybe you don't go looking for trouble like Harry, Ron, and I do, but that just makes you smarter."

Dean laughed. "Let's roll again." He landed on a 3.

Hermione rolled, and she landed on a two. She sighed.

Dean was silent for a moment, thinking. "Okay. I know a Dementor for you was a failing test, but knowing you, you managed to trick it. So, what's your real fear?"

Hermione looked down on her lap. "Watching someone I love die. I never want to see what a Thestral looks like. I can't imagine what Luna and Harry go through every time they see one. It probably serves to remind them each time who they saw die."

Dean grabbed her hand and pulled her into a kiss. "I think that's enough game now."

She didn't fight when he dragged her to lay on the cushions with him. In fact, she burrowed herself into his embrace, finding safety and love.

They might not have played the game as long as she would have liked, but she did feel like she knew Dean just a bit better, and that was what really mattered.

Who knows?

Maybe they'd continue the game on another day.
