Escape to Eden

The preface or the finale?

Harry figured no time was better than now. He'd been planning it for the last week. There would be no immediate or permanent opportunity, nothing as absolute as this. At least, nothing that would present itself any time soon.

He couldn't be craven. He had to do it. He was at his wit's end.

There was a shuddered breath that competed with the distant roars and cheers outside the tent. Another cannon went off and Harry heard his name. He looked to the tiny beast in his palm, and the smooth wood in his other, and the puckered lines of flesh on both.

"I'll do this. Fuck them, fuck them, fuck Ron, and Hermione, and Dumbledore, and Snape, the fat bastard and that whore." This was his hymn as he stepped into the arena. His thoughts ran parallel with the vicious smile as he greeted the heckling, boisterous masses.

It sharpened when the terrible force of the Horntail's hellish shrieks and howls quelled the philistine yelling. A burst of fire illuminated the silence of the crowd and cast malignant red shades across the landscape. Stray flames singed the hairs and clothing of spectators near the center of the arena and a cacophony of fear erupted.

This was Hell's dome, and Harry could honestly say he was glad everyone was in it with him, if only for this fleeting moment in time.

Harry didn't dawdle. He had planned this, and no wish to curse the troglodytes surrounding him and shout his grievances to those fucking scum would make him misstep. He didn't have a knack for ranting he's seen the success rate for those who do in the movies. In his life.

He jabbed his wand to the heavens and a terrible, joyous light entered his eyes. Thick, black, heavy smoke oozed from the tip, quickly overtaking the arena until nothing was visible. Only the fire of the dragon illuminated random sections of the darkness, appearing as orange lightning caught inside a roiling cloud.

One word rose from the black mist, and a horrified energy traveled throughout the stages.

Goodbye.

The crowd heard another mighty bellow from the dragon and then an equally deafening splat.
