Grif wants a puppy. Grif has always wanted a puppy. So when he stumbled into a sort of-maybe-yeah-ok relationship with Simmons. He wanted to get a puppy with Simmons. At first Simmons paid his slightly indolent boyfriend no mind; he would nod at the potential puppy names and mumble answers to different breeds. So when Simmons found himself staring a three legged puppy with one eye, he thought he shouldn't be surprised. He was. Simmons looked at Grif; he was so excited he looked years younger. Back before Red vs. Blue got complicated, and before Simmons was half mechanical. Replacing the parts Serge gave to Grif, he looked like the excitable rookie that Simmons met for the first time.

Grif was holding the puppy under the dog's arms, lifting him so his over-sized paws, (that he had yet to grow into) were dangling towards the ground. Grif was talking a mile a minute about his plans to ask serge to give Bane a cool robot leg, (because Grif had worked out the puppies name already).

When Simmons walked past Grif snoring on the sofa with the puppy half laying on his head, he gave the softest smile. Because earlier that evening donut told him over baking bread that Bane meant "long awaited child" in Hawaiian. Simmons looked at the sleeping pair and couldn't think that Grif put too much thought into the name, maybe it just came naturally he thought slipping his coffee, and going to fetch his two idiots a blanket that would be covered in Oreo crumbs by the morning.
