A Scene from Doctor Who
Renae Graham
I am crouched in a vast land of snow, crying. All of a sudden, I hear a boxy voice. I look up and slightly to my right. As I blink and my eyes focus, I see a face of tentacles. An Ood. He is asking me if I am ok and I can't talk much because I am still dizzy. However, I can sort of make out a symbol on his chest. It is not entirely in focus, but I ask him what it means.
"It means Sigma." The Ood replies.
"You're an Ood. Sigma. Ood Sigma! Oh my, I have heard such stories of you."
"Yes ma'am, and if I may, what is your name?
"I am Tess. Tessa Song."
Ood Sigma's eyes open wide. "Song. I know that name."
"Yes, I am the daughter of River Song and the Doctor, and I am lost." I think for a second, trying to recall what had happened. I wince from a headache. "I can't remember much, but there was a war with the Daleks. You know, as usual. Mom, dad, and I were fighting. We were running toward the TARDIS with me in the lead. I tripped over a heap of metal as I opened the door and there was an explosion. And the next thing I know, I was here. After wandering a bit, I came across a museum of sorts, where I saw a large framed photo of my mother. I asked someone about it, and they said she died 394 years ago. But I just saw her a few hours ago. Ood Sigma, did the TARDIS send me here? Did my mom and dad really die 394 years ago?"
"No, miss Song. Your parents died 393 years ago."
"But… that would mean they lived. They lived! But they lived without me. Oh no!" Suddenly, I hear a faint, whirring sound. I looked around, but nothing. I stagger back to Ood Sigma, and his communicator is glowing a very light blue. "Ood Sigma! Your communicator! It's the TARDIS! But… but how?"
"I do not know, Miss Song."
I stepped over to touch the communicator, but Ood Sigma pulls it away from me.
"Miss Song, I do not want you to get hurt."
I hear him, but barely, I move forward and touch the communicator. I feel a surge of electricity run through my veins, but I am ok. Nothing happened. I stared in to the communicator and the blue turned brighter and the sound got louder.
"Miss Song, do you think that perhaps your parents sent out this signal?"
"Yes, but how would they know where to send it to? The TARDIS is incredibly smart, so perhaps the signal has always been everywhere, but on such a low wavelength that only I could detect it. Ood Sigma! My parents are coming!"
I hear the sound of the TARDIS again, but this time it is not coming from Ood Sigma's communicator. It is coming from behind me. I spin around to see the TARDIS coming in to view. I stare, wide-eyed, but then it stops. No more TARDIS sound, no more blue box. I fall to my knees and cry. Ood Sigma kneels down next to me. I can see my breath in the cold, snowy air. It is a pale yellow color with bright yellow shine. I turn to breathe on to Ood Sigma's communicator, and it erupts in a blindingly bright blue light! A tower of light comes from the communicator, and I once again hear the TARDIS. But this time, it is loud and right next to me! The TARDIS materializes, and I hear a woman's voice from inside.
"Doctor! She is here!" The doors burst open and out comes my mother, River Song. A few moments later, out comes my father! We all fall to the ground in a heap of hugs and tears.
"Doctor." Ood Sigma speaks, but his communicator is broken from the blast. My father stands up.
"Hello, Ood Sigma. Long time, no see."
"How... can we understand you? It isn't the TARDIS." I ask.
"Miss Song, I do not know."
