Wrote this short one-shot for no reason in particular. For those of you following my main story (Staring it up!), I'll update it this weekend.
Disclaimer: I don't own Star vs. the Forces of Evil.
Curse of the Blood Moon:
A New Promise
"What if it was never the Blood Moon?" asked the teary-eyed princess and tightened her grip on the boy's hand, fearing that if she let it go, he would disappear before her eyes. She lunged at him and buried her face in the comfort of his chest, allowing her tears to stream down her cheeks and gentle sobs to escape her mouth. "I-I don't want these feelings to be a lie!" she cried, feeling her heart ache with each word. "What if it's all a lie, Marco!? I want these feelings to be real!"
The princess sobbed violently into his chest, overwhelmed by those painful emotions she'd been holding back for both their sakes.
"I… I don't want that either, Star." Marco gently brushed the back of the sobbing princess with one hand while holding her tightly in his embrace with the other, refusing to let her go. He made soothing sounds and whispered softly into her ear, promising that it would all be alright. At last, she calmed down, but he could tell that she was still hurting. "I also want these feelings to be real, Star, but this is a risk we're just gonna have to take."
"Why here? Why now? This isn't fair!" Star cried and more sobs and hiccups followed.
"I know it's not, Star, I know it's not…" Marco said as softly as he could, wishing nothing else but ease the pain of his treasured bestie.
The two teens remained in one another's embrace, ignoring the stares of the surrounding crowd and the murmurs and whispers that were no doubt directed at them.
Marco waited for the princess to calm down once more, and when he could no longer hear her painful sobs, he gently pushed her away from him slightly, never breaking their embrace, and met her teary gaze with his own hazy eyes.
"…Star?"
"Hmm?"
"Let's make a promise." Marco hugged her closer to himself, and Star followed suit, instinctively inching closer to the only person who could bring her so much joy and sorrow. Their foreheads met and Marco brought up a hand to wipe a loose tear from her cheek and smiled softly at her. "Let's promise that after we break this curse, if these feelings don't go away, we'll be honest with each other. No more bending around the bushes-"
"-no more lying-"
"-no more excuses-"
"No more turning back," they finished in unison and smiled earnestly at one another, wishing this moment could last forever.
"You've got yourself a deal, Marco Diaz…" as the words left her mouth, the princess closed her eyes and edged her face closer to the boy's, who mirrored her movements.
The Blood Moon seal above their heads shattered.
The memory fades.
