A Little Too Late

Authors Note: It's a short little oneshot I wrote out of boredom. It really is nice, so you should read it and review :D

She smiled sadly down at him, tears sparkling in her eyes. Her tears were like jewels to him, shiny, pure and full of meanings. A ninja shouldn't show any emotions no matter what the circumstance is, but damn that rule, damn everything.

Uchiha Sasuke smiled for the first time in his life. Perhaps he has smiled before, but it has been a long time since his last. He grasped her hands tightly in his own, making up for the times when he has showered her with nothing but coldness and rejection. He loved her, but he didn't know how to put it in words. It was such a distant feeling, something he has never felt for a long time.

"Sakura…" he whispered quietly. "Sakura, I have something to tell you"

Sakura smiled and nodded her head as if to urge him on.

"I…I...I hate you."

There was a moment of silence, but it was the only thing he could say. He hoped she would understand.

"Why?" she asked through her tears, "Why are you telling me now?"

He smirked. Of all the things he could have done, he chose to smirk. It was most natural for him to do so. It gave him a sense of power and courage. Smirking was his personal trade mark.

"You really want to know why?" he asked.

Sakura nodded.

"It's a little too late" he answered. "It's a little too late."

With a last smile to mark the end of his presence, Sasuke closed his eyes. He felt himself lose consciousness, but Sakura's hands remained beside him, just like every other time.

His life flashed before his eyes and sadness swept over him. All the happy times he could have enjoyed…all the love he could have given her…

But nothing could be done now…

It was a little too late…

Author's Note: And that's that. I really didn't want Sasuke to die or anything but the story seemed better that way :D. Well, I'm going to write a prequel to this oneshot but it won't follow this storyline exactly. I'm sorta hoping for a happy ending...okay, please review and let me hear your thoughts!
