It's an uncomfortable night to be alone and the howling of the wind outside the castle walls seems to agree. DG pulls her blanket closer and wishes she weren't the only one in this massive room. She rethinks that when she considers what else could be in here with her and DG scolds herself for further impeding her own ability to sleep.

She tosses and turns, tucks and tackles each lump in her pillow. She pulls the covers tighter, hides her face in the darkest nook she can find but still, recent events won't let her sleep. They won't let her forget what she's done, both to Azkadellia and to the O.Z.

She gives up after nearly an hour. She decides to go for a walk - the darkness is smothering her and she'd rather wander the castle than feel like the walls themselves are after her.

She pulls on her robe and shoves her feet in to her slippers before sneaking out of her room.

Or at least attempting to.

If it weren't for a very familiar presence standing outside her door surely there to scare the living hell out of her.

"Jesus Christ Mr. Cain!" DG's hand clutches at her chest trying to calm the rapid beating. "What are you doing?"

"Question is, what are you doing, Princess? Is there a reason you're wandering the halls in the middle of the night?"

"I haven't actually gotten to the wandering part. Is there a reason you're stalking my bedroom?"

Cain grunts, the only indication that he's taken offense to her choice of words.

"I wasn't stalking. I was standing guard. Someone ought to. You don't think defeating the Witch was the end of it, do you?"

"Great. As if I wasn't having enough trouble sleeping."

Cain frowns and DG rolls her eyes, which seems to be a rather frequent exchange between them. The Princess stands there in her robe and slippers and the Tin Man stands with her, neither of them quite knowing what to do.

"So, where were you heading?"

"To the kitchens for tea and then the study to read. I left my book on Transmorphication and Teleportation when I was hiding from Tutor this afternoon."

He nods, though he hasn't the slightest idea what she's talking about. He stands up straighter, if that's even possible, before adjusting his ever present fedora. He takes a step forward but hesitates to continue.

"You going to put something else on?"

DG looks at him indignantly, perfectly content to walk the halls of the castle in her bedclothes. The look on Cain's face indicates that this isn't an actual question or even a suggestion.

DG lets out a huff before turning back to her room.

"Next time I'm using the window." She grumbles just loud enough for him to hear.

"I wouldn't put it past you. I'll be sure to be there when you break something."

"You are quite the downer, Mr. Cain."

"And you're quite the hassle, kid. Get dressed."
