A/N: Since Fullmetal Alchemist and D. Gray-Man have similar elements, I felt this was appropriate seeing how Ed would meet the Millennium Earl. I was originally inspired by Heliotrope-Housecat's image found here at Deviant Art. art/FMA-DGM-Earl-99803879

I felt it needed a quick one-shot story and here it is! Enjoy!

The Earl's Rejection

Once the dark clouds flooded above the sky over Resembool, there was no holding back any tears. It was the perfect day for a funeral when someone close to you has recently died. Two young boys stand in front of a gray tombstone that reads – Trisha Elric, 1878-1904. She was the mother of eldest born Edward Elric and youngest born Alphonse Elric. Her recent death, due to a terminal illness left her sons grief stricken and to be watched over by Pinako. They were mourning the loss of their mother.

"Damn it! Why did mom have to die?" Ed sobbed. "It's not fair!"

"We should go back." Al said, regaining his normal tone of voice. The pain still remained inside.

The clouds didn't show any sign of stopping when the rain became heavy. "We should go back, brother." Al said getting up to go back home. Ed didn't respond.

"Come on brother we should go back home now, it's getting colder." Al gave Ed his right helping hand for him to stand up. He furiously rejected it and continued to sit at the grave of their mother. He continued to stare at the graved words Trisha Elric.

"Ok, I'm going home." Al turned and went back home.

Somewhere in a distant far away land, a phone rang among a dozen of other phones. A chubby looking Viridian gentleman demon with purple skin was rushing around answering calls about people who have recently lost a loved one and were mourning their deaths. This put the Millennium Earl into a joyous mood to do more killings of the mourning and turn the dead into killing machines for his own personal gain. One call in particular was a young boy who had recently lost his mom struck the Earl's attention since it was in a faraway world, where the Earl wanted to go.

"I will be on my way." He said joyfully.

Ed remained intact to since Al left. A few bursts of thunder struck the clouds when Trisha's grave became overshadowed by an enormous figure. Ed calmed his grief for a second to turn around and tears disappearing. He became emotionless for the moment looking at a large viridian gentle with demon-like features. He didn't know what to make it out of it.

"Good evening, I can bring her back if you like." He said happily, offering the heartbroken little boy to see his mother. With a single snap of a finger, a metal skeleton appeared with a star in the middle of the forehead.

"Just call the name of your mother and she will appear in there." He explained pointing to the skeleton.

Fear, anguish and pain flowed through Edward's body. He longed to see his mom, but had other plans how to resurrect her. Something felt off about the offer, it was too good to be true how man looks like a demon wants to bring a person's loved one to life.

"Nah thanks, but I'll do it myself." Ed hurried off.

The Earl had never met anyone to reject an offer. He felt like a failure for the first time.

The End
