A Promise to Keep by The Creepy-Psycho-Loner

Disclaimer: All characters, Places, etcetera are not owned by me. I simply do the plot.

I look up from the computer screen

as I hear a distressed yet muffled scream.

I stand up from my old swivel chair

and begin my decent up the stairs.

I knew Friday Night Fright Fest wasn't the best

because, from experience, it gave Mikey everything but rest.

I gently knock on his closed door

and hear his footsteps going across the floor.

He opens it, I walk in, sit on his bed, and get ready

to recite the consolation speech I have prepared already.

To tell him that monsters really don't exist,

and to argue when he still wants to insist.

When he looks unsure- unconvinced,

I know I have to use my last line of defense.

I tell him I'd always protect him and he beams at this.

His baby blue eyes sparkle "Donnie, you promise?"

I know promises are meant to be kept

but I never thought about them in depth.

I know if I break them,

I break him.

I know if I keep it like the others

it strengthens the relationship between us brothers.

Promises are a peace of mind for us

to show us who and who not to trust.

A broken promise is a taboo.

It's meant to be kept, that's the universal rule.

My heart suddenly strengthens-

With a lot of protective determination.

For I have the most beautiful job, you see.

I am the host of a promise to keep.

"Yes. I promise you, Mikey."

Indeed, I have an important promise to keep.
