Harry Potter couldn't sleep. After checking that Ron, Seamus, Dean and Neville were asleep, he grabbed his invisibility cloak and map, and crept out of the dorm with an alarming amount of stealth for a fourteen year old.
When Harry couldn't sleep, he often found that a night time stroll helped to relax him. It wasn't exactly allowed, indeed, if he was caught it would be a lot worse than a few lost house points, but when he woke up in the middle of the night, he wasn't always thinking of rules.
He was thinking about the Triwizard tournament as he wondered through the freezing halls and corridors of Hogwarts, passing empty classrooms, worrying was something that he had been doing a lot of lately. The first task was a complete mystery to him, and it was likely he would get himself killed. He was becoming more insomniac and eating less everyday. At least one good thing had come out of it though, Hermione had really proved her friendship, and stuck by him, their friendship had been cemented further. Ron, however was a different story.
Walking along wrapped up in his thoughts, he almost walked into Snape on his nightly patrols; they only fuelled the rumours that he was a vampire. When Harry brushed past him, he had the feeling Snape's suspicions were risen, so after quickening his pace, he ducked into an empty classroom of which someone had left the door open.
Pulling a chair out, he collapsed into it and tried to catch his breath. He sat there for a few minutes, until he decided that it was safe to leave. When he tried to leave though, he was greeted by something he never thought he would see again.
It was a mirror.
Instead of showing him his reflection, it was showing him something entirely different. His reflection was there, but he looked different, he looked much older and it looked like he had had the major growth spurt he had been expecting. The real shock was the person standing there with him. Hermione was standing there, looking beautiful as ever, in a gorgeous white wedding dress. They looked so utterly in love, way past a platonic relationship. Turning to each other, the mirror Harry and Hermione embarked on a very passionate kiss.
Looking up to the top of the mirror, he recognized it, and had seen it before, just this time the reflection was different. Inscribed on the top of the mirror were the words 'I show your hearts desire', it was the mirror of erised.
It was a night of realizations, and Harry didn't know why he hadn't had this realization sooner. Hermione was great, there was no reason that anyone wouldn't want to go out with her. Harry and Hermione. They sounded good together…
