Nightbirds, Redwing

Author's Note: This is a song I learned from my Grandpa, who was born in the 50s. It's pretty, but I don't know the name and I can't find it anywhere on the internet. BTW, I'm Native American, so nobody had better start ranting to me about how they think this song is offensive. Cause I'm native and I think I should be able to tell what offends me or not.

Okay, this is a tribute to our fallen speedster, Wally West. I'd like very much for it to turn out that he just went back in time or something, ya know? But, it's still depressing so I wrote this.

WARNING: Can be taken as slash or preslash or just bromance; but the song makes it look like slash...X3

I own nothing

There once was an indian maid,

a shy little prairie maid,

who sang away her love song gay,

while all the day she whiledaway the day,

Robin smiled and hummed a song he'd learned from his mother. He was happy to help Alfred clean the Batcave. It reminded him of when he lived in the circus, even though the chores weren't as crazy as those.

She loved a warrior bold,

this shy little made of old,

Robin smiled up at the speedster. His firey red hair went well with his personality. His bright green eyes sparkled with an innocence that Robin had lost long ago. He still had his family, his home. Robin felt his hand being held by Wally's. Robin's smile widened as Wally said, "Bro's for life!"

but the brave, one day,

he rode away to battle in the fray

"Wally, you can't do this! You're not as fast as the others, what if something happens?"

Wally just smiled, "Artemis, it'll be fine. Don't worry."

Nightwing just looked at his friend. He had a feeling something bad was going to happen. But, he stayed silent as Wally ran to the North Pole.

Now the Moon shines tonight on pretty redwing

the breeze is sighing,

the nightbirds crying,

for far neath the stars her brave is sleeping,

while redwing's weeping,

her heart away

Nightwing thought back to when Wally had quit with Artemis. Wally had cut off all communication with him. It was like he never existed. What had happened to them? He'd been fine with Artemis, as long as she'd made Wally happy. He'd been okay with Wally leaving. But...he hated that they'd lost all contact. Maybe, even with the falling out they'd had, they could put the pieces back together and be friends again?

the day the braves returned,

the heart of redwing yearned,

for far, far away

her warrior still lay

from battle in the fray

Nightwing smiled, they'd done it! They'd stopped the REACH! Everyone was safe. He ran toward where he saw smoke clearing around two figures. His eyes widened...two? No. He felt his heart cave in on itself when Flash said to Artemis, "He loved you."

Wally, his best friend, was gone?

Now the Moon shines tonight on pretty redwing

the breeze is sighing,

the nightbirds crying,

for far neath the stars her brave is sleeping,

while redwing's weeping,

her heart away

Batman put his hand on the Kid Flash memorial hologram. His best friend.

"Tt. Hurry it up, Grayson."

"I'm coming, Dami."

Damian glared at the hologram. What was so special about a kid that could run fast?

Author's Note: Yeah. I was depressed. So, this happened.
