He sat at her console, stroking it gently. The poor old box had been having trouble lately and it was causing her Thief to worry immensely. The truth of the matter was, she was dying. The Doctor's faithful blue box was finally failing him. There was no fixing her this time and he knew it.
"Please, don't do this to me, Old Girl. You're all I have left and you're all I'll ever have left. I need you to hold on for me," the Doctor whispered mournfully. He didn't want to lose her just yet. He wouldn't have anywhere to run anymore. Not if she died on him.
The TARDIS could only give a feeble hum in reply. She was growing so weak, and everything took effort now. But she was still able to do one thing to express her emotions, and she would surely do it for him. He meant that much to her.
I have to die, my Thief. You and I know that's how the story goes. Our dance ends with my death, and one day soon, you too shall perish. That is the way of this cruel Universe. Not even you or I should live eternally.
The Doctor winced softly, closing his eyes. Why did she have to die so soon? Not even Rose or the Ponds' death seemed to come this quickly. Maybe it was because he had expected her death, or maybe it was just because he cared for his old box too much. He would probably never truly know.
The light emitting from the TARDIS began to fade a little, causing a shadow to grace the Timelord's face. It was as if a veil for mourning covered him and he lowered his eyes. She was really, truly dying and he couldn't save her. He could never save her, no matter what he did. He thought nothing was impossible, but this was and it killed him.
Do not mourn for me, Thief. We have had a many good years in each other's company. Thousands and thousands of years together, remember? You're not to cry for me, but remember me. That's all I ask of you.
Theta Sigma laughed sadly, as he gently gave the TARDIS's console a kiss and watched her light dim further. Almost like a faerie which no one believed in. But he believed and he would carry her memory around for as long as he lived.
"I will never forget you, my beautiful old girl. I swear on all of my lives and both of my hearts that I won't. You were my beginning and my end. Just as I am yours. I only beg that you hold on for me a little longer, even if for just a few seconds."
The TARDIS sent a warm breeze to envelope her Thief before her light faded completely, and life fled from her. The end had come just as it always had to come and that was it. He would never again hear the whirring noise that gave the Universe hope.
Sighing hopelessly as a few tears slid down his pale cheeks, he gave the console a last pat and began to head out to begin his last few years of life alone. Just before he left her doors forever, he whispered, "Goodnight, Sexy."
