LightL

Light almost stared in disbelief. He could not believe that L - the great, impervious L - was afraid of a mere thunderstorm. Granted, the power was out and the storm was lasting longer than normal; the task force had been working all day by both natural light and flashlight, leaving around six to escape the worst of the storm, which was predicted to be around nine.

He sighed, watching the detective's barely there shivers for a moment longer before turning back to his laptop.

They were in their shared bed, Light half-way under the covers and L in his usual spot at the edge of the bed, his feet almost off it. A flash of lightning and a loud roar of thunder seemed to startle him a bit, causing him to wobble slightly.

Light sighed and, used to his younger sister's not-yet-gone fear of the dark, thought nothing of setting the computer down and sweeping the quivering detective into his arms. L seemed surprised, freezing up and protesting quietly. Light's voice - quiet, lilting - stilled him, hearing the teenager murmur into his hair. L thought it was in English, since he knew that many consonants did not belong together in Japanese. He decided to ask.

"What is Light-kun saying?" He could feel Light smile slightly.

"An old nursery rhyme. Would you like to hear it, Ryuuzaki?" L nodded, jumping slightly at the next boom of thunder and burrowing even deeper into the teenager's shirt in an effort to escape the sounds of the storm. Light began softly, and L allowed himself to relax into his arms.

It was only this once, after all.
