Creepy Crawlies
"Did you get it?" She shouted from the other room.
"I can't find it!" He yelled back.
A chill ran down her spin. The thought of that thing hiding somewhere only to re-appear when she was alone made her toes curl.
"Oh come on you HAVE to find it! And KILL it!"
Nathan peeked his head through the door with a look of disbelief.
"You don't mean to tell me, the fearless Audrey Parker is afraid of a teeny tiny spider?" he questioned on a laugh.
She glared at him, "First of all that thing is NOT teeny tiny and second…" her words faded as her eyes grew wide.
"What is it?" Questioned Nathan as the color left her cheeks.
She lifted a trembling finger and pointed to something above his head. Turning slowly Nathan made eye contact with the beast that made his partner scream like a little girl.
It scared the hell out of him and he surged backwards tripping over his own feet.
The eight legged monster took advantage of the situation, leaping from it's high spot on the wall.
Just before it landed on Nathan a shot rang out and it burst, splattering over the walls, floor and Nathan.
"Augh, discussing." Complained Nathan.
"You okay?" Questioned Audrey as she left her corner on the other side of the room.
"I'm good." Responded Nathan as he stood. Making a face he wiped at the spider goo to no avail. Looking at Audrey he sighed. She was barely managing to contain her laughter. "You think this is funny do you?"
"I told you," chided Audrey as she handed him a washcloth. "And Thanks."
"For what? You killed it yourself."
"For coming to my rescue."
Nathan smiled, "I'm always here for you." He said sincerely. "even for ridiculously huge spiders."
Audrey smiled, "You still have a little here…" Gently wiped his brow clean and their eyes meet.
"If circumstances were different, I would have kissed you by now." He said
"If circumstances were different I might have kissed you back."
They slowly closed the distance between them, never breaking eye contact. The kiss was sweet, slow and sticky.
"You need to take a shower," she murmured against his lips.
"I need to take a shower." He repeated as they parted. Turning he headed for the front door.
"Where do you think you're going?" called Audrey.
"Stopping Nathan turned. "To have a shower," he simply said.
"The bathroom is that way." She said as she tilted her head in the direction of her bathroom.
Nathan stood mutely, waiting for an explanation.
"You can't leave," she finally said, "I need you here in case you have to rescue me from another creature. You might have to stay all night…"
