I do not own these characters. These characters belong to Tess Gerritsen, and the makers of Rizzoli and Isles on TNT. I am just a HUGE fan, who needs to occupy her free time with some creative writing.
Jane is 16. She comes from a mentally and physically abusive home. Her parents neglect her, and when they do acknowledge her they're yelling or hitting her. Jane is nothing like her family; she doesn't smoke, drink, or do drugs. She's the most intelligent person in the family, and she's kind hearted. She taught herself right from wrong, and she was never registered for school. She taught herself to read and write, and spent most of her time in the library reading. She packed up, and left the day before her birthday. She only took her sketch pad, writing utensils, sharpies, 3 pair of Jeans, her Van Halen shirt, a Led Zeppelin shirt, her ACDC shirt, a tank top; and a pair of Vans that she drew on so they wouldn't look so old, a pocket knife, and she took $500 that her mom took from her when she had a summer job last year. She leaves about 15 minutes after both of her parents are gone to make sure they won't be back anytime soon. She knew they probably won't come looking for her, but if they caught her trying to leave they'd beat the crap out of her. She was going to start her own life, but first she needed to get a job. She walks to the mall, and thinks: "Lots of stores, lots of jobs, lots of opportunities." She was very optimistic, and knew her life could still be good regardless of her daunting past. She should have a totally misanthropic attitude because of the hand she was dealt, but she just didn't, it wasn't the type of person she was. She walked into the mall looked around and started at Hot Topic; she had only been to the mall twice her whole life. But she knew Hot Topic had the coolest band shirts, and jewelry. There was only a boy in the store behind the counter he was reading a magazine, he looked maybe 18. She approached the counter and said, "Excuse me, are you hiring?"
He replied, "Maybe, how old are you?" His eyes never left the magazine
Jane thought it was a little rude that he wasn't properly acknowledging her but she really just wanted the job. She stated," I'm 16, but I'll be 17 tomorrow."
He looked up, and examined her face she was maybe5'7 and probably weighed 110 pounds, definitely underweight for her height. But he noticed that she was beautiful, and had amazing hair. He quickly ran to get an application from the back. He was lonely in the store, and wouldn't mind a pretty lady to keep him company. He wore a Green Day shirt, black skinny jeans, and green converse, and he had his eyebrow pierced.
Jane wandered around the store while he was gone, she passed by the piercing jewelry, she wanted a piercing an industrial one, and she wanted almost all of the clothes there; if she got this job she would be overwhelmed beyond belief. He came back with an application and a pen and told her to fill it out and then bring it back. She was leaving the store when he said, "Wait. I'm Barry, but you can call me Frost." She turned around and said, "Nice to meet you Frost, I'm Jane." She threw him a smile then she walked to a bench to fill out her application. She finished and returned to the store, gave her application to Frost and left. She thought, "That was fast, I have nowhere to go now, I could circle the mall. No, that's crazy I'll just leave." She made her way out of the mall and sat on a bench in the front of the mall she had just left. Small cries harassed her ears. She turned around looking for the source of the sound and found herself being pulled in the directions whilst still carrying her bangs.
It was a girl sitting on the bench crying she was probably 16, or 17, and had honey blonde hair, her head was down. And she was holding a cell phone in her hand. Jane approached her and touched her shoulder causing the blonde to jump a bit. The blonde looked up, and she and Jane were staring into each other's eyes. Jane broke the silence when she said," Umm.." She scratched her head. "I'm sorry I startled you.. Are you okay? I don't mean to pry; I just thought maybe I could help." The blonde girl smiled.
The blonde stood up straightened her dress, and fixed her shoe. She had on an expensive looking dress that fit perfectly on her curves; she had an expensive looking duffel bag, and black heels. She extended her hand, Jane took it and they began to shake.
The blonde spoke, "Hi, I'm Maura."
"I'm Jane." They held hands longer than normal, and quickly dropped them as they noticed they were gazing into each other's eyes again.
"I'm a bit lost, I just moved here and I was looking for the house my parents bought for me. I was using the gps on my phone, but my phone has died."
"I'm pretty much a street walker. I mean, I know my way around. I could probably help."
"Really, you'd do that?" The blonde exclaimed
"Sure, it's not like I have anything better to do and I'd like to help."
"Okay. You're very kind. Thank you."
"I haven't helped you yet." Jane laughed. "So.. What's the address?"
She pulled a piece of paper out of her duffel bag and spoke, "The address is 1405 2nd Street North east."
"Oh, I know where that is. It's maybe 45 minutes away."
"Can you give me directions?"
"Umm.. I'm not really good with directions. Sorry, but I can walk you there though."
"Walk? I have a car."
"Oh okay, I can take you if you're comfortable with that. If not, we can walk there, and you could always walk back to your car."
"Umm, no thank you. I have on heels, we'll take the car." They both laughed
Maura motioned for Jane to follow her; they went to this black Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500. Jane had never been in a car so nice she opened the door slowly and carefully and sat her bags gently in the back seat, and sat in the front and buckled up. Jane pointed which way to go, which was all she could do because they were in deep conversation. Then Maura asked "How old are you Jane?" Remembering she had not asked that question in the whole 15 minutes they were talking.
It was the second time she heard that question today. Probably the last she'd hear it this year. "I'm, um.. 16, I'll be 17 tomorrow actually. You?"
"I'm 16 as well, I'll be 17 next month.."
"You're 16 and you live by yourself?"
"Well technically I do now, I suppose."
"Are you scared, to live alone I mean?"
"My mother and father were never at home much anyway. I always knew our maid was there though. I guess I was a tad bit neglected." She shrugged
"You and me both sister." Jane said bluntly
"Where are you going anyway, I noticed you have bags?"
"I uh, I ran away from home. It's my birthday tomorrow and I just don't want to be stuck around all that negativity."
"Well where are you staying?" Maura asked curiously
"I really don't know Maura; I guess I'll get a hotel tonight. I only have like $500 dollars. Until I can get a job, but it won't even be that by the time I buy food."… "Left here."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Was it really that bad at your house that you had to run away?"
"STOP!" Jane yelled. "Right here, this is your house. And yeah it was." She pulled up her shirt showing Maura her side. There was a blackish/purplish bruise covering most of her ribs.
