Chapter 1

I stepped through the door into my workshop, an unexplainable feeling mixed of confidence and boredom infecting my mind with thoughts of shattered dreams and stolen diamonds.

I once was a rich man.

I had been strolling through a mine one day to meet the head miner to see to it that I got my share of iron, so I could craft the team's pickaxes and helmets. I carried down my sample, but on my way, a bright bluish glint caught my eye. I curiously slipped over to it, making sure I was not noticed, and had to take a minute to register the thought:

Diamond.

Of course, being the selfish man I was, I took it all for myself and hid it. I used it to purchase a beautiful mansion, hand-built by one of the finest architects in Minecraftia. It cost only two diamonds, out of the eight I found. The legendarily rare rock started to shape my life – I let it corrupt me. I became a greedy man, and I didn't realize it until it was too late.

That life is gone now. My base was raided, and then, without my precious diamonds, I could not pay mortgage on my house, and it was foreclosed. I retreated to a small, cheap abode, and returned to my job as a craftsman.

Now, in my chest, I was loaded with iron to make 64 pickaxes, 64 helmets, and 64 swords. I did the math and found that that's ten stacks of iron ingots. Sadly, I was the one with the furnaces, so along with that came a stack of coal to use as well. Was.

As I looked into my chest, I saw nothing. It was completely empty. I checked every corner for a trace of iron. Every possible place I could have left it, I looked. My iron was gone. I looked on in horror before realizing that I needed to check my furnaces, those miners are NOT happy being assigned to the coal job, so if that coal is gone…

Well, whaddya know? It's gone! Not only are all of my supplies to protect the miners and keep them going gone, but so is the fuel! I checked my crafting table's secret compartment, as I only have told 3 people, 3 people I trusted with my life, where my compartment was. As I opened it, panic set in – my entire life savings were gone. I could have invested in an ender chest, but I couldn't afford one and that update wasn't there until after I was raided.

That was it. I just… broke. I hit the floor, and can't remember anything after that.
