She ran blindly through the dim lit path, knowing not where she was, where she had been, what she was running from, or what her destination was. In moments like these, the only thing on your mind is surviving. It doesn't matter if its dark...or if your lost. It doesn't matter if its so cold that you cannot feel your feet as you run through what seems like nothing but a black void of crunches and crackles and you feel as though you could fall into an endless pit at any moment. All that matters is staying alive. Breath...think...stay calm. This is what the girl did as she tore through the vines and shrubbery like a madman. She could see absolutely nothing. Even the stars and moon hid their faces like it was a sick joke to see her panic and misery. The only thing guiding her was the sound of the crunching leaves as she stumbled around, the faint sounds of unidentified things in the distance, and the textures of which the objects her outstretched hands came in contact with.

She had been wandering for hours now. She didn't know the time...she didn't know the day...she had to sit and close her eyes to try to even remember who she was. "I am Alice Liddell ..." She stated aloud. The sound of a human voice echoed through the unnaturally silent "forest" in which she was in. It stood out like a black ink blotch on a white paper. So blunt and pointless in something so blank. She thought hard to try and convince herself that she was sane. She tried to think of where she was. There was vines...no light...trees...the ground was soggy and wet...and there was moss. The air felt as though it did not have a temperature. It wasn't warm, it wasn't cool, it was the exact same temperature as her and she found it difficult to breath. Not that it wasn't breathable...but that it was a strange and foreign feeling in her lungs. She did not know where she was. How did she get here? The memory shot through her mind like a cold steel bullet.

Running. Running away...that's what she was doing. Running from her alcoholic father and into the starlit woods behind her trailer home. The shining lights in the sky soon dimmed like the lights of a cinema as she ran further and further into the woods. The canopy became denser with every few galloping steps she took.
Crunch... crunch... crunch...
The approaching footsteps of her father were as good as gunshots to her.
Crunch...crunch...crunch
Her terror rose like a lake within a dam. She made sharp turns, wheeling around wildly to try and get him off of her trail. Then, after a few more minutes of running, everything stopped. The crunching behind her was gone and she stopped running to look around. Only tiny specks of light filtered through the thick branches overhead. She did not recognize this area...everything was different.

And then blackness. The memory faded out and she was back to the moments at hand . Every second felt like a thousand years. She began to run again in false hope that she would find some light, some clue to where she was, something...anything. Nothing. For what seemed and felt like two years she continued on until it stopped. Everything stopped. The crunching...the feeling of the things she touched with her outstretched hands...there was nothing but the feeling of wind in her face and the sound of whooshing in her ears. This is when she realized that she was falling, yet she did not scream. There was nobody to scream to. No reason to waste her air. No reason to do anything but feel herself speed up. Get closer to the bottom with every moment. The worst part was that she didn't know where the bottom was. At any moment she could-

Boom.
