The night was cold, a dark and stormy night. One that kept people in their homes, away from the uncertainty that the evening might hold. This night a young teacher sat at his table grading papers as he often did, with a cup of coffee by his side.

A ringing echoed in the house that was silent, apart from the storm outside. Iruka looked down from the papers he was grading at the phone sitting on his desk. He wasn't expecting a call from anyone, but decided to see who it was. As he opened the phone, he noticed the small picture of his boyfriend, Kakashi Hatake. Iruka had been expecting Kakashi home, and it wasn't until he glanced up at the clock that he noticed how late the other was.

"Hey, where are you?" Iruka asked as he answered the phone.

He heard nothing on the other side.

"Hello?" He asked again, as he heard rain pouring down through the phone.

"Sorry I'm late, Iruka." Kakashi said, a common sentence that flowed from his mouth.

"I don't really care about that, just as long as your safe."

"Well..you know me.. always getting lost on the road of life," he said with labored breathing.

"Kakashi? Is something wrong?" Iruka asked as his concern grew.

Kakashi was silent letting the pouring rain continue to echo through the phone.

"Kakash-"

"I'm fine Iruka." He said firmly.

"You're Lying!" Iruka replied as he stood up suddenly, his hand hit the coffee cup that sat on the table as it went flying. The crash was amplified as a clap of lightning rang through the house.

"You always were good at noticing…" Kakashi paused as Iruka's breath hitched, "Just know, that I love you, and that is the truth."

There was nothing else, as the line went dead.

"Kakashi?" Iruka asked through the phone, hoping for an answer.

When there was nothing, Iruka crumpled to the ground tears.

A/N: Done for Nezkov-Sou's art piece Lies, on dA. Might continue, but still deciding whether I like the somewhat sad open ending, or make a optional ending that might be a little happier.
