Daphne Greengrass considered herself in the mirror and adjusted the green dress she was wearing. The neckline was lower than her father would approve of but she was not dining with her father this evening. Father had let her have a private dinner with her boyfriend Blaise tonight. Actually, he had insisted that Astoria joined them but that wasn't really such a hardship. Daphne smirked as she considered how she could again rub it in Astoria's face that Blaise was, in fact, Daphne's boyfriend, not Astoria's. Daphne was sure that Astoria would leave the table quickly and then she would have Blaise all to herself for the evening. With her dress in place, and covering everything, she waved her wand over her chest to make sure that the dress would not slip during the meal and went downstairs.

"Blaise," Daphne cooed when she saw the figures in the entrance hall, "Astoria wasn't bothering you, was she?" She shot a glare at her sister and moved in between them. She went to give Blaise a kiss but he turned and all she got was a cheek. She knew it was inappropriate to show that much affection in front of other pure-bloods but it was only her sister.

"No, of course she wasn't," Blaise replied. He looked anxious, as if he expected someone to hex him.

"Oh don't worry dear," Daphne giggled, pushing her chest against his arm, "Father isn't joining us tonight."

Blaise visibly tried to relax, "Well, shall we then?" offering an arm to both sisters. Daphne wasn't quite sure how she had ended up on the left, and therefore lesser, arm. Feeling a bit put- out after the kiss and the arm slights, she allowed herself to be guided into the small dining hall.

Blaise guided the girls to their seats, Daphne again on the left, and took the head of the table. Astoria smirked when she realized the seating and saw the look on Daphne's face and got up to use the ladies.

"What's going on Blaise?" Daphne demanded. "You've never missed a social cue in your life and you've now put me on the left, below my sister, twice. Explain. Now."

Blaise fidgeted for a bit and looked around, as though for an escape. "Well, the thing is," Blaise trailed off.

Astoria swept back into the room and to her seat. "We're engaged," she announced, showing off a huge diamond ring which Daphne knew belonged to Blaise's grandmother.

When Daphne speechlessly turned to Blaise and received confirmation it was all she could do not to cry. That ring should be on her finger, not her sister's. "How?" she stuttered. She looked up at her sister's face and knew that somehow, this was Astoria's doing. "Give us a minute, would you Blaise?"

Blaise exited the room quicker then was socially polite and Daphne turned to her sister. "What did you do?" she hissed.

"Well I told Daddy about how Blaise and I had been seeing each other for a while now, and how we were in love but I was scared he was never going to propose because he was afraid of offending Daddy. When he saw how upset I was, Daddy just went right ahead and arranged a marriage contract. It's all official now. There's nothing you can do. The petty argument of 'he was mine first' probably won't work on the goblins. Although, you are welcome to try if you want," Astoria smirked at the shocked look on Daphne's face. "Oh, I'm sorry; did you forget I was in Slytherin too?"

Daphne knew there was nothing to say. She got up and left the room, going right past Blaise as though she barely noticed him and only turned when he called her name. "Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials," she said politely and carried on her way, leaving the broken hearted boy behind as she went to nurse her own heart upstairs.
