Title: Ashes and Rituals
Author: RedRoseAngel
Email: RedRoseAngel85@hotmail.com
Disclaimer: All hail Joss and David
Distribution: Just let me know where it's going
Summary: Someone visits a grave.
Pairing: To tell would ruin the effect of the story.
Rating: PG
Author's Notes: Just a whim I came up with.
I can't believe you're dead.
Gone.
Nothing but a pile of ashes.
Nothing left to remember you by.
Just ashes.
You have a headstone though- something we needed to
remember you by. That's where we sprinkled your ashes.
Your ashes.
God, I can't believe you're dead.
I can't breathe.
I loved you. Still do. I mean, it would've never worked
out, even I knew that afterwards. But just because things
can't work out doesn't mean the feeling won't go away.
But now you're gone-
-ashes-
and it can't work out any better. I only wish-
-ashes, dust, gone away, never to be seen again-
I wish I could see you smile, one of your rare smiles.
It's been so long-
You came back before- from Hell. A part of me still
hopes you'll come back again-
To me.
My friends tell me to let go-
-I can't-
that you've gone to a better place and wouldn't want to
see me hurting.
I am.
And I can't.
There's someone standing behind me- I guess I've taken
longer than usual. I have to go now.
"Goodbye Angel. I love you."
-ashes-
I turn to the man who is waiting patiently for me to
finish. His dark eyes penetrate though me in concern,
and I know I worry him. I worry everyone, still crying
over Angel. But I can't stop, not even after these years.
"Are you ready?" he asks softly.
I nod, and he in a gesture of comfort, he puts his arm
around me and walks me home. It's our ritual- he seems
to know when I go see Angel, and he makes sure I make
it home okay- even though I'm fully capable of taking
care of myself.
I'll walk into my house, after giving him a hug goodnight.
I'll thank him for being there for me, and start to go
inside, my mind full of Angel.
Then he'll ask, "Do you need me to stay?"
And I'll reply, "No, I'm fine Xander- good night."
"Good night Cordelia."
