Ponytales: Random little snippets that might or might not become their own stories
Advice: Bulk Biceps sees Scootaloo miserably watching the other Pegasi her age doing tricks and gives her advice.
Normally Scootaloo would be estatic to watch her fellow aged Pegasi doing tricks to impress Rainbow Dash, but today, today she wished more than ever that she could join the others in the air, feeling the wind under her wings, trying just one of the tricks she'd seen other Pegasi her age do. But what use was it? She was long past the period where a Pegasi normally took their first flight, heck even Poundcake, Mr. Cake's young colt could fly better than she could. It was all the fault of her stupid wings. They were too small for her large frame. She knew it, had been told often enough by Nurse Redhart that there was nothing pony medicine could do, her wings would grow in.
But every season that went by that she still could only barely hover above the ground she felt the crushing defeat anew. How could she even call herself a Pegasus when she couldn't even fly properly? A bitter glance at her cutie mark started the tears falling, what a cruel mockery it was to have the wondebolts insignia etched into her flank if she could never join them in the skies.
"HEY LITTLE PONY! WATCHA THINKING ABOUT?'
Scootaloo squeaked I fright as she whirled around to see the all white, all muscled form of Bulk Biceps beside her.
"I didn't see you there." She settled, not really knowing what to say, "you know for such a big pony you sure can sneak up pretty good."
"YOU WANT TO JOIN THEM DON'T YOU?"
Scootaloo rubbed her ear as she winced, did he have to be so loud, "More than anything. But I can't. Not with these dinky things."
The white Pegasus nodded, "COME WITH ME LITTLE PONY."
Once they got far enough from town, he dropped to the floor. "Do you see my wings little pony?"
Scootaloo noticed two things, this far out he was quieter now, and secondly he had a pair of very tiny wings, even smaller than hers. "Wait, how?"
"When I was a little Pegasus I was just like you, ONLY MUSCULAR! I was told I'd never fly, just like I'm sure you were."
Scootaloo nodded sadly,
"One day just after I got my cutie mark for bench pressing I noticed something on my way home, do you know what it was?"
"No?"
"A bumblebee. A tiny little bumblebee. Did you know that everything we ponies know about insects says they should not be able to fly? That their wings should not be able to support their weight in flight?"
"I didn't know that,"
"Neither did I, until I started watching them, and then I studied them. I saw how they used their wings and modeled my flight after theirs. I don't know if you've ever seen me fly, but I'm not very fast. However I can hover for long periods of time."
"Do you think it could work for me?" scootaloo asked hopefully
"No," he saw scootaloos face fall, but continued, "From what I've seen from you riding that scooter all over the place, I can say you are nothing like a bumblebee. You are more like a hummingbird, so fast that no one can see your wings."
"So, what?"
"So if I were you, I'd go talk to Fluttershy. She's got a few hummingbirds at her place. Watch how they fly, and I bet you'll get the hang of it. NOW IF YOU DON'T MIND I HAVE PLACES TO GO! GOODBYE LITTLE PONY"
Scootaloo just sat for a while, thinking on what the older Pegasus had said, she had tried Rainbow Dash's advice on feeling the magic in her wings, the innate magic that allowed all Pegasi to create their own air currents so they could fly, but all that had resulted was falling from heights that she was sure was not good for her.
Perhaps, ponies with smaller wings than body needed a different method than regular Pegasi. It wouldn't hurt to make a visit to Fluttershy to try Bulk's advice.
End chapter
This is my personal theory on why Scootaloo cannot fly. Look at her wings, they are smaller than her body, just like Bulk Bicepes (the white Pegasus with the tiny wings and muscular body with a barbell cutie mark) Then watch how he flies in the episode Rainbow falls. He flies slowly and clumsily, more hovering than flying.
