Author's Note: Hello there! Really quickly, if you've read the description, you know that this particular fanfic is a songfic, meaning it's based off of a song. This one in particular is based off of In the Name of Love by Martin Garrix and Bebe Rexha. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: If I owned Doctor Who, the Ninth Doctor would've stayed an extra season and Rose would still be here.

Light. That was all he could see. The brilliant glow filled the room, enveloping everything in it. Him, the daleks, and… her. Rose. There she was, glowing. Power radiated from her, eradicating everything around them. By her will, the daleks disappeared, lost in the flow of time and space. She had so much power coursing through her, strength flowing through her mind. Yet it would kill her. The abilities that had saved them would come at a price. The knowledge in her brain, the things she could do… It would kill her. Poison her mind from the inside out, corrupt her mind until her thoughts were incomprehensible. It was a parasite, feeding off its host. No. No, he refused to let her pay the price. So he made his choice. He took the power inside of her and brought it inside of him instead. Shame, he'd only just regenerated. But he did it anyways and in doing so said a silent prayer. That she would yet accept him, and maybe, just maybe, she'd love him still.

He carried her, in the deafening quiet. In the pressuring silence that reminded him all too much of loss. How many lives had been taken here? So he ran. He seemed to be quite good at it, anyways. Rose needed help anyways, he told himself. He still didn't know the full extent of the damage. How much it had damaged her. How much it would damage him. Who knew what the Bad Wolf had done to her? So he walked in the shadows. Past the darkness that now lurked. To the Tardis and her comforting presence. Before he knew it, Rose had awakened and his actions caught up to him. He could see first confusion, and then panic when he explained regeneration. When he began to glow. When he lurched forwards in pain. So he spoke. Another thing he was quite good at, he liked to think. He used his words. This time to soothe. To assure her. To joke and ease her pain, if only a little. He weaved subtle hints in their conversation, weaving them into his sentences. Oh, but he was careful. Careful to say goodbye before he left.

"You were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I."

Light. Blasted light, filling the air again. It was different of course, but he still hated it. For once, he hated the process. Hated that he'd change. That Rose would have to see him change. That he'd be different, with a new appearance, a new personality. He hated leaving her like this. There was pain and anguish on her face. Panic, too. She really didn't want to see him leave. It touched his heart that she loved him this much. That she felt so much hurt over his regeneration. What a shame that he wanted to hold her only now, when he couldn't.

Author's Note: So? How was it? Any comments, questions, concerns, or recommendations, pretty please tell me. I don't know about you guys, but I have a soft spot for Nine. My favorite Doctor's the Tenth, but Nine was pretty awesome too, seeing as he's my first Doctor. (Plus I couldn't stop thinking about him every time this song played.)
