Arthur stood relieved that the horrible beast was dying and could not terrorize Camelot anymore. Something odd began to happen though. The bastet's body began to shift and writhe slowly becoming more slender. When the transformation was complete, a girl
lay on the stone ground.
She had long silky black hair and green eyes which were staring into the night sky. She wore a long, expensive looking dress similar to Morgana's dresses.
The knights recognized her as the druid girl who escaped from Halig, the fat bounty hunter, and drew their swords once more until a panicked cry reached their ears.
"Freya!"
Merlin ran as fast as he could towards the beautiful but injured girl. He dropped to his knees hard which hurt him but he ignored it.
"Merlin! Step away from her, you fool!"
Arthur began to walk towards the couple, as did the knights but came to a halt at the spectacle.
Merlin was rocking Freya in his arms, sobbing brokenly. It was a sight Arthur had never seen before and it made him uncomfortable.
"Come on, Freya," Merlin was able to get out, loud enough for it to echo in the courtyard, "Remember what we planned, we were going to live near mountains and a lake with wild flowers."
Merlin continued rocking her back and forth, holding onto her like a lifeline.
"Tell me how I can save you, please, tell me."
He was now sobbing uncontrollably whilst the knights and Arthur looked on confusedly and wondering how Merlin knew the girl, the smarter ones catching on.
"You've already saved me," Freya got out, "you made me feel loved, i'll always love you Merlin"
Arthur stood transfixed at the sight of Merlin with a girl. Not just any girl though, a druid one too!
"I don't want you to go, don't leave me alone," Merlin said with heart-wrenching sobs.
"I'll always be with you."
With that last word, Freya let out a shuttering breath and went limp.
"No!" Merlin screamed rocking harder than ever.
Everyone stood for a while trying to understand what just happened. Arthur was finding it hard to believe Merlin had a girlfriend and completely ignored the fact that he was the one to kill her.
Gaius came out of one of the alcoves that led to the Court Physicians chambers and tried hard to seperate Merlin from Freya's body.
Merlin stood shakily and picked up the limp girl and ran into the woods.
Arthur and the knights stood for a moment then ran after him into the woods and through the trees. They nearly lost his tracks and Arthur now knew Merlin scared away the prey on purpose when on a hunting trip.
They reached a lake to see Merlin stood watching a burning boat which no doubt held Freya's body.
The next few weeks were hard for Merlin as everyone now knew his relationship with the dead druid girl. Uther had assumed Merlin didnt know about her magic and was just being a foolas always.
Everyone gave him sympathetic looks and Merlin ignored them all. Arthur would throw half-hearted insults hoping for a retort but getting silence.
He didnt speak nor did he eat. All he would say to Arthur on a daily basis was "Yes sire" or "As you wish sire". Gwen couldnt get through to him neither could Gaius but eventually they both gave up and said he needs to mourn before he can get
happy.
Day by day, Merlin opened up more until he was back to his usual happy mood. However, no one knew what was going on inside.
No one would know how much pain Merlin felt for his lost love. No one knew how much he missed her. No one knew how much he loved Freya.
His Freya.
