Vincent

(Inspired by the classic poem by Tim Burton

and a slightly lesser one from the novel Holes)

.

Vincent Crabbe is eighteen years old

His seventh year has begun to unfold

Hogwarts has changed since he was a boy

He's no longer the crony of Draco Malfoy

.

Goyle whinges about that, says if only, if only

We was a trio again, not on our own and lonely

Crabbe looks in a mirror, practices making his lip curl

He thinks perhaps Goyle liked being turned into a girl

.

Vincent tries to impress the new Dark Arts teacher

He practices Killing Curses on a variety of creatures

.

Professor Carrow gives him top marks, he becomes well-versed

In punishing other students with the Cruciatus Curse.

He catches a Ravenclaw freeing the first-year, Warner

And helps make an example out of Michael Corner

.

At his Death Eater ceremony he's man of the hour

Surrounded by Dark wizards of vision and power

He hears whispers and rumours to cherish and savour

A certain pure-blood family has fallen out of favour

.

Vincent says softly what he hopes to be true

"Malfoy, you and yer dad are through."

.

A/N: Anyone who remembers my Addams Family tribute The Malfoy Family (da da da dum, snap! snap!) or my Professor Horrible's Sing Along Journal probably won't be surprised to learn that when I came across another fanfic poem called Vincent I immediately thought of the Tim Burton classic and felt my heart flutter at the thought of reading an homage. Sadly, it was a very nicely written and emotive imagining of Vincent Crabbe's death, so I felt compelled to write my own Burton-esque tribute and toss in a bonus homage to a poem from the book Holes to cheer myself up. And yes, I meant to be creepy (I think Vincent Crabbe became sadistic and creepy); I know "we was" is bad grammar (fits the character) the first-year Corner freed wasn't named, and the actual quote from DH is "finished" not through. Artistic license is a good thing. How could we write fan fiction without it? Since today is throw a writer a bone day (whatever day this is read) I hope readers will get into the holiday spirit and review. :)
