Prologue
"Here!" Raditz grinned, and he shifted more of his weight on to his foot. There was a sickening crunch, followed by Goku's agonizing scream.
This only amused Raditz.
"No hurry, brother!" he said mockingly, "Suffer more!"
Raditz turned towards Piccolo, who stood stifly.
"Be patient!" He called out to the namekian. "You'll get your turn! Why not take a shot at me in the mean time, eh?"
"Because you will only dodge it again..." Piccolo's voice hinted towards defeat.
With a devious smirk, Raditz returned to tormenting his brother. However, his joy was cut short as his scouter let out a few high pitched beeps right before overloading.
"W-what the-"
He suddenly found himself on the ground over a hundred feet away from where he was originally standing. He gasped when he saw his attacker, for it was -
"K-Kakarrot?
No. It couldn't have been Kakarrot. Because Kakarrot was still in the same place, too broken and battered to move. But the man who attacked him had the spitting image of Kakarrot – and Bardock as well. The only difference was that this man had longer hair.
"Kakarrot, what kind of trick is this!"
"I'm not Kakarrot. " The young man had said the words with great distaste. He lifted an arm towards Raditz and a large Ki blast was sent towards the saiyan, completely obliterating him. Not even bothering to see if Raditz was dead, the young man flew right towards the ship where Gohan was hidden. He kicked open the door and scooped the child into his arms, ignoring his wailing.
"Who are you?" Piccolo demanded. Piccolo knew better to attack though. This young man had just destroyed Raditz with one move.
The young man said nothing and flew away, ignoring Goku's pleas for his son. After a good five minutes he decided it would be a good time to land. He placed the small child on the ground, who proceeded to collapse on the ground, crying.
"Don't be sad, little guy." The young man cooed, but with no success. The small child continued to show distress.
"Gohan."
At the sound of his name, Gohan immediately stopped bawling. He stared up at this stranger with his watery dark brown eyes.
"Gohan." The young man repeated again, saying the name with extreme fondness. He knelt down on one knee so he could be face to face with Gohan. "It's Goten. Remember me? Your little brother?"
"G-Goten?" The little Gohan replied.
Man, was it hard for Goten to imagine this small crying thing as his older brother.
"Yeah it's me. Goten. None of this is real –- this all happened about 20 years ago or something." Goten placed his hand in front of Gohan. "Just grab my hand and we can go home. We're going home, okay? Back to... back to the real world."
If Gohan could sense Goten's dismay, he didn't show it. Instead, the little child looked at the offered hand.
"Goten." Gohan repeated, but with much familiarity.
The small child extended his arm and Goten couldn't help but smile. He had thought that this would have been so much more difficult, but he ran into no trouble at -
"Shit!" Goten yelled as he jolted himself into an upright position, wires detaching themselves from his body as he did so. His hand flew to his heart and he clutched it in pain. He turned to the bed beside him where Gohan lay unconscious.
So it failed.
Bulma stood above Goten with a stern expression on her face.
"What happened in there?" she demanded.
Goten looked at his chest and was relieved to see there was no gaping hole where his heart was.
"Gohan killed me."
