Simon and Jeanette were reading a book together.
"Wow. That was such an amazing book," said Jeanette.
"I know," replied Simon. "We should read it again sometime."
"Definitely," said Jeanette as Simon put the book away. "Oh, Simon. I forgot to tell you."
"What?", asked Simon.
"Tomorrow's my birthday."
"Oh, right. I knew that," said Simon as he remembered hearing something about her birthday the previous day.
"Have anything special planned in mind for me?"
"Oh, yeah. For sure," said Simon.
"Thanks," smiled Jeanette. "Well, I'll see you around." Jeanette then got up and left. Soon after, Simon got up and went to Dave.
"Dave, I have an announcement to make: Jeanette's birthday is tomorrow."
"Really? Well, we better start making her a cake," said Dave.
"Immediately," said Simon.
THE NEXT DAY
Jeanette walked into the room, only to see no one around.
"Hello? Anyone there?", she called out. Just then, everyone jumped up and shouted, "SURPRISE!"
"Whoa!", exclaimed Jeanette.
"Happy birthday, Jeanette!", everyone said.
"We made you this cake!", said Simon.
"Oh, thank you so much!", said Jeanette.
"Dave, I've got a special present for Jeanette," said Simon.
"Oh yeah? What is it?", asked Dave.
"First, go to the piano and start playing the tune to 'Daydream Believer.'"
"Okay," said Dave as he went to his piano and began to play the tune. Simon brought out a microphone and began to sing.
"Oh, dear Jeanette / This is for you / It's a special present, too / I'm glad to say this is not overdue"
"Oh," sighed Jeanette with sheer happiness.
"Today's the day / And I'm glad / This song will not make you sad / I thought of it myself and it's not bad"
Dave kept playing the tune on the piano as Simon sang.
"Happy birthday, Jean / You know what it means? / It means today's a special day and you really gleam"
"Thank you, Simon!", said Jeanette as Simon winked, then continued to sing.
"You think of me as a chipmunk on his steed / Now you know how happy I can be"
"And I really am, too," added Simon as Jeanette smiled with joy.
"And our good times will never end / No matter how much we spend / I love you, my sweet dear, my dear Jeanette"
Dave kept playing the piano as Simon danced with Jeanette.
"Happy birthday, Jean / You know what it means? / It means today's a special day and you really gleam / Happy birthday, Jean / You know what it means? / It means today's a special day and you really gleam"
As Dave played, Simon did a little dance before continuing to sing.
"Everybody!", proclaimed Simon as everyone sang in and Simon and Jeanette danced.
"Happy birthday, Jean / You know what it means? / It means today's a special day and you really gleam / Happy birthday, Jean / You know what it means? / It means today's a special day and you really gleam"
Dave brings the tune to an end as he and everyone else applauds for Simon and Jeanette.
"Thank you so much, Simon. This was the best birthday ever," said Jeanette.
"Anything for you, my love," said Simon. "Happy birthday."
